It occurred to me tonight that the intros to Diners, Drive-ins and Dives are a great example of Hollywood Driving since Guy is talking to the camera as much (if not more) than he's actually driving. Madrugada agreed with me that it's an invoking of the trope, so I got some screenshots from the intros as possible pic options. Granted, none are great quality, but I think they're clear enough.

They are OK for me. This was discussed elsewhere as well, yes?

[up][up] We talked about it off-site before I made the thread, if that's what you mean.

Ah. Well, that's OK then.

I prefer the first or the second — the fact that his car is moving is more evident in those two. In the third one, he could be stopped. The first is slightly better than the second, since in it, you can see both motion blur in the background and that the wheels of his car are moving.

1.1 is good [tup]. Certainly better that the images in the previous thread we had not that long ago.

Is it relevant that the trope is being renamed, and that the name currently in the lead is Driver Faces Passenger?

Tropes are flexible enough that I'd say, no, it doesn't really matter. We aren't going to make multiple different tropes that differ only in what the driver is looking at instead of the road (Driver faces passenger, Driver looks out his side window, Driver looks up, Driver looks over his shoulder, Driver fiddles with the radio... It could go on practically forever.)

I don't know... in the TRS thread, Amy Gdala was pretty insistent on avoiding even names like Eyes Off The Road and specifically talking about looking at the passenger, though she seemed to consider the alternative to be forms of distracted driving that happen in Real Life like turning to a phone or something, which might be a misinterpretation of People Sit On Chairs. Certainly turning to the Fourth Wall is as close as you're going to get to the core of the trope without actually having a passenger (but if it counts that might affect our choice of caption), but I'm not sure she would want to include most of the stuff on Maddy's list.

That is not a reference to the trope. He is driving with his eyes closed, in a way; showing off for the girl. It is not Invoked (or whatever) because the author was not making a reference to Hollywood Driving.

Also the bugs can be removed from any of the images in the OP, if one is selected.

Given the TRS discussion, I'm good to close this and wait for that to resolve before moving on. Yea/nay?
