Having a link to an example isn't wrong if it's also explaining it. I kinda think it's an example that shouldn't be above the example line, though.
Anyyway, considering this trope is about a zooming effect, it might be hard to visualise with a static image, even if you have two.
Check out my fanfiction! Two images looks bad. Only way I could think of illustrating it is if a comic were to parody the effect.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed. Why don't we just have a side-by-side of it happening in the actual movie Vertigo? I mean yeah, that example from the first scene is horrible, but the church tower scene has some nice shots.

Maybe we can get admin permission to use an animated GIF?
what if someone did an animated gif of the stairwell scene from the movie Vertigo?
Oh look I mispeled somethink.Animated GIFs aren't allowed as page pics. See the first post of the "IP discussion" thread.

You can't upload them, either.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanBut we a have a few special cases, Creepy Changing Painting have a picture that change when you scroll, YKTTW Bump have a meme / Image Macro(Image Macro too), some pages have a video, Badass Decay is...

True, but I doubt very seriously that Eddie will make another exception for something like this. Most exceptions have a reason behind them, even if it's just Eddie's whims.
What might work best is to just build a good Image Links page; that way we can link GIFs to our hearts' content.

This is going to be a hard one to illustrate then without some kind of motion going on
Oh look I mispeled somethink. Is it considered rude to bump your own suggestion if nobody responds to it? Because I think the minor change in the foreground compared to the large change in the background from La Haine (4.1) demonstrates this quite well.
Honestly, I think it's too subtle...I had to look at it for a few seconds to see the effect.
I'm not sure this one works without actual motion.
Check out my fanfiction!Clock is set.
Clock's up; locking for inactivity/lack of consensus. No action is to be taken based on this thread.
Vertigo Effect has a offsite link to the zooming effect shot as used in the Trope Namer, but has the usual pitfalls of Weblinks Are Not Examples, so the page would benefit from an image.
I tried Jaws, but the contrast isn't strong enough and looks more like a regular zoom-in. I think the actual Vertigo Effect◊ looks good enough as a page image.
