Just for a cultural influence, not a Race Lift as a whole. Have Atlantis be a mash up of various Pacific Islander customs.

But isn't Atlantis in the Atlantic, not Pacific?

Meh, minor details that could be handwaved to be Atlantean refugees being lost at sea and influencing various island cultures around the world.

I remember an Aquaman mini-series from the 80's that had Aquaman finding a lost colony of Atlantis that had apparently inspired a lot of Irish Tuatha De Dannan mythology (odd, since Tuatha De Dannan means "Children of the Sun"). Ireland's an island culture, right?

2018 has ten movies? God damn. This won't end well.

7 by my count. Still seems kinda excessive.

I'm counting the movies that don't have firm release dates too. I expect they'll try to keep them in that general time frame.

I know people keep talking about a saturation point that never seems to happen but I am legitimately concerned right now. We're approaching the point where five different movie universes will be running simultaneously with various sequels being announced and given release dates before the movies leading up to them are even being cast. Someone is going to collapse and I'm thinking it will be fairly soon.

That's more or less exactly what I just said over in the Marvel Cinematic Universe discussion. Ten movies for 2017? That won't end well. And the only studio I would put my money on to pull through is Marvel, depending on which Superheroes they pick for "unknown movie"...but if Gat G 2 isn't a success, I would be surprised, no matter when they show it.

I just hope that the Wonder Woman movie is good and is not the one which falls victim to the scheduling. I have been waiting my whole life for a Wonder Woman movie, I need this to be successful, for the right reasons.

If WW bombs, that's gonna be the final nail in the female superhero coffin.

I hate company executive logic. "It's not about the quality of the product, clearly it's because women were involved!"

I don't have much hope but I really really really want the Wonder Woman movie to be good.

Yep. Really, DC has a bunch of movies that I want to succeed for various reasons. The Cyborg movie, the Shazam movie, the Wonder Woman movie...

I hate that logic, too. As if there has never been a movie with a male hero which bombed. That's why I would love to get a Black Widow movie before the Wonder Woman one...because there is no way that this one would bomb. Not the way the Marvel verse is currently going. The DC universe on the other hand is barely there, and is currently standing on very weak feet.

I hope Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Cyborg are successful. Comic companies need to realize that there's a market for superhero movies that don't have white male leads.

James Wan will direct a DC film for New Line Cinema/WB.

“James will make an important movie for New Line and Warner Bros or DC, and that is definitely part of the plan, and a reason for bringing him into the family. He’s the only overall director with a deal here, because we see him as a class of one.”

I just hope they treat Aquaman right instead of over-playing the "He's a badass, totally unlike the Super Friends version! So macho! See, he doesn't just talk to fish!"

[up]x10 Five universes? I don't think Disney's Big Hero 6 can really count.

Of course, if Dark Horse and/or Image announce cinematic universes of their own, that would be one hell of a shocker. But that's off-topic.

Where'd you get Big Hero 6 from? The five universes are Fantastic Four, X-Men, Amazing Spider-Man, DCU, and MCU.

[up][up]I think Fox are running two universes, keeping the Fantastic 4 and X-Men separate.

[up][up]Is Fantastic Four intended to be an universe? I thought those are standard movies which might get crossed over with the x-men if they get them out of the ground. But I really don't see how you want to create an Universe around the Fantastic Four. Not enough characters.
