[up] See, and that is exactly where I disagree. A very glaring example concerning Batman v Superman: Lex says that he want the match between men and god, with Batman standing for men and Superman standing for Superman. But the very first thing the movie does is rising Bruce up, letting him float in the bats, this indicating that he is more than men. Lex also wants men to be the most powerful being on earth and yet he creates the devil. But it is not really the devil. Because he turned the picture around. Meaning in his mind, even though he constantly talks about the match of men vs god, Superman, who came from the heaven, is not god, he is the devil, and the "devil" he raised is god because he came from the ground.

I could go on and on. Man of Steel does the same thing, having a number of scenes which do work on their own, but once you put them together they keep contradicting each other.

I thought the funeral dream was showing how the Batman helped give Bruce a new focus on life following the death of his parents and helped lift him out of his depression. Bruce is still a man, but the Batman allowed him to overcome personal trauma, until the Batman began to overtake his reasoning for becoming the Bat in the first place(I see the bat monster smashing through the Wayne tomb as being Bruce's own subconscious recognition that Batman is taking over his life and "killing" the purpose he had in creating the persona)

"he totally misunderstood the line about god being either all powerful or good but unable to be both, btw. The line doesn't even apply to Superman because he is obviously not all powerful."

Superman is so much stronger than anything else in his world that he might as well be all powerful. That line just brings me back to Red Son once again. Superman has it within him to fix every material problem on the planet but that would involve doing things many people consider "bad."

Count me in as someone who will always favor flawed ambition to perfect genericness. It's why Metal Gear Solid 2 will always be my favorite, even if the other games are "technically" better.

The hebrew word "elohim" means powerful entity. Uppercase Elohim refers to God, and the lowwercase would apply to Supes.

He's holding them to show how to hold them for Batfleck, but no, take everything about him in a negative light, it really shows how you don't have a clear negative bias against him and how that makes your criticisms so fair and right.

So anyway, count me in with "I prefer bad ideas to boring secure movie" because While I enjoy a simpler film, is not the kind I want to see again, I like Iron man 3 over Ao U because the former try something and follow to the end(asking wheter Tony is armor) which was a very good devolpment that make him stand as chararter(really compare that to Civil war is borderline depressing) while Ao U since to aim big but fall down in the typical: rockstart hero, quipping and gags and funny villian around that they wasted, for me the same happen with both Thor movies and Iron man 2 while I have mixed result of Civil war

that dosent mean DCCU is perfect, oh FAR for it, Luthor is sometimes too simplistic, almost a parody of marvel villians, the edditing is sloppy as hell and there is some idiot moment(like Lois try to take the spear only for Super to do it) but they are plenty of good moment: bruce getting in metropolis, him as batman in the dugeon or clark vs zod in man of steel that really sell it for me.

And speaking of superhero movie memes, this.

Worth noting that none of these guys were considered the actual problem in their films.

@ Swanpride- Interestingly what you did there is pretty much exactly what I'm talking about. You take time to assess the themes and compare it to the other topics and ideas that are brought up, and that often includes the contradictory statements. Regarding Lex's talk of gods, men and monsters, it's certainly not out of character for him to be hypocritical. His line early on talking about metahumans as a potential defense against Superman and not wanting to "Rely on the grace of monsters." Taking that, along with his constant admonition about the nature of god and power, and compare that against his creation of the monster Doomsday, and that Superman is the one to save him from Doomsday, makes that entire story so much richer to me. Man of Steel had a few similar ones, all the talk of being selective with your strength and especially Jonathan talking to Clark about the bully doesn't foreshadow but informs the climax with the Zod fight.

Hell, your statement about Bruce floating in the air with the swarm of bats making him more than a man (even though it's firmly stated to be a recurring dream or faulty memory) makes me think that it further highlights how Bruce and Clark are Not So Different.

[up][up] It's what I do with every movie, especially one which claims to have some deep thoughts in it. I take apart what the movie actually says, and sometimes the result is very interesting. More often then not, though, it is only hot air. It is one of the reason I consider The Dark Knight incredible overrated, because once you take apart what is actually said in the movie, you realize that the movie considers itself smarter than it actually is (don't get me wrong, it is still a good movie, but mostly thanks to Heath Ledger's once in a lifetime performance, not because the script is in any way "smart"). At the same time I can take something like the Captain America trilogy (yeah, I went there) and I would need ages to take the themes in them apart, even though there are few "big speeches" in it, instead the symbolism is underlying in the story in a way that you can either just enjoy the movies as action flicks, or you can look deeper and discover a careful exploration of themes which do NOT contradict each other, but give me something to think about. And that without the need to paint a giant arrow in the sky with the words "see how smart we are" written on it.

Once I take apart Man of Steel or Batman v Superman, I end up with a pile of nothing, meaningless statements which mostly tells me that the director has a very low opinion of humanity, but without bringing anything meaningful to the conversations aside from "the world sucks". Even Guardians of the Galaxy, which is one of the fluffiest pieces Marvel ever did (love the movie, but it IS mostly a popcorn flick), manages to do a "the world sucks, but everyone of us has the power to do something about it by decided to step up".

[up]Didn't the heroes only survive gotg1 because one of them wasn't 100% human as everyone thought which made him able to survive using the Stone for a minute instead of burning up or exploding in a few seconds?

It only gave him a forty second survival time as opposed to a 10 second one. The hand-holding to distribute its power was still necessary for them all to live.

"At the same time I can take something like the Captain America trilogy (yeah, I went there) and I would need ages to take the themes in them apart"

the first two I can give that, but civil war said nothing more that "Our hero is awsome and even when he is wrong,he is with style" some of the decision made to make him right(bring Ross as pro-reg,Tony sudenly put Wanda in house arrest, forgetting her unleash Hulk in south africa) just piss the right off me, my biggest hope Black panther adress what he did in CW, otherwise I will lost my hope of them engaging in any serious storytelling

If John Cena is Captain Marvel I will leave the cult of Lord Snyder and go to Marvel.

Might burn down WB too.

Or just watch the movie and relish in Black Rockdam beating the shit out of him.

I'm a wrestling fan so I hate John Cena.
