Also Counterproductive AI Help (or something like that) from me.
The problem with a lot of those names is that they only indicate an AI character and not Exposition Fairy characters which the unsplit trope originally applied to.

What is the term for these things such as AI assistance and Exposition Fairy?

It's not necessarily that. It can be the Exposition Fairy interrupting your gameplay just to give you advice.
I also put forth a straightforward yet bland title: Annoying Video Game Helper, just so it can encompass both unhelpful AI characters and annoying Exposition Fairy characters. We still need better names.

I actually like that one better, but first, do we have a description for the objective trope?
I'd rather we make that one a Sandbox page. It's too early to clean up wicks until both halves have been made.

Me too. I should point out that overwhelmingly, helper characters do not use AI as the term is commonly used. An opposing computer player in Star Craft or Street Fighter uses an AI; a character like Navi is pretty much a scripted part of the interface.

I really don't want the name I put forth to go through, though. I'm sure there has to be a better name than just Annoying Video Game Helper.

Neither Annoying Video Game Helper nor Unwanted Assistance is good in my opinion. They're both bland as hell.
