[up]The Anime Network will get the episodes a few weeks after they are simulcasted. Aside from that, not really.

So yeah, this is definitely my favorite show of the season so far (with only Tamayura being remote competition). I love stories about people from two different cultures becoming friends, and the way it played out here was great.

Episode 2. In which I like Alice a little better.

"Your English sounds a little awkward," she says in awkward English.

I like how blunt Alice is. Also, she doesn't seem to use honorifics.

Weekly slice of Moecake, yum!

In this episode, Alice gets special treatment and Shinobu learns some hard truths about her hair.

I like how in anime, foreigners don't know otaku terms, but IRL those are the words they are most familiar with.

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.

...is it wrong that I find the yuri subtext hilarious?

Why would it be wrong?

Yuri subtext could never be wrong...between two unrelated individuals of the same age.

Also the first choice should always be cat, not rabbit or hamster. I mean really.

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.

Well that was pretty cute, Alice getting jealous of the teacher. Also next episode will introduce her other childhood friend.

Huh, so this doesn't have a page yet? Kind of surprising for a Manga Time Kirara show.

It's not the yuri subtext, it's that I find it funny.

I would have started one if I have decided whether the title should be Kiniro Mosaic, Kin-iro Mosaic (the spelling use in manga volumes), or Kinmoza (Title changed by Japanese request)...

Call it Kiniro Mozaic and make the other two redirects, I'd say.

It's been fun.

I'm still not sure on how punctuated titles exactly work, but if you want (and know how), you can set the page title to "Kin-iro Mosaic" (probably the most "official" title, as it's shown in the logo), and then anytime someone makes a Wiki Word out of Kiniro Mosaic, it will appear with the hyphen.

Kinmoza should be a redirect, IMO.

(And there is no "Kiniro Mozaic". The "za" comes from the katakana for "mosaic", which in romanji is "mo-za-i-ku".)

Well, I do know how—by wrapping the thing in curly brackets.

Trivia: originally, the title was actually Gold Mosaic. (Danbooru warnings apply)

Episode 2: Why is this show so adorable

Fist-pounding laughter was had over the bunny ears and plane gags.

Being somewhat of a grammar nazi, there's really only so much bad pronunciation I can take. I was just about to tear my hair out halfway through the first episode, but thankfully they skipped ahead to the present day...

That said, this show is killing me with a massive overdose of cuteness.

My favourite parts were actually the epic fail language barrier moments at the start...well, mainly "Hello!" "Konnichiwa!" "Hello!" "Konnichiwa!"; that really had me in stitches.

I find it hard to believe that anybody could be a high-schooler in Japan and know only "Hello", though...

[up] To be fair, Shinobu's kind of an airhead.

On a side note, I love the ED~

SamCurt's random points for the day:

  • It's still amusing to see Shinobu eating an English breakfast and Alice, a Japanese one (with natto!), despite this is always shown in the OP.
  • Isumi's name... not so much of an issue in romaji, but the kanji is just 勇, which is the male form. The female form is usually 勇美.
  • We see a lot of Alice's Blank Blue Eyes a lot, aren't we?
  • Sounds like Aya habitually forgets to wear her tights. The problem is Shinobu offered to wear hers.
  • Alice is "rather short" for her age? I don't know what's her official height, I'm quite clear Alice is absolutely within the definition of short stature in the UK. Maybe just at the lower end of normalcy in Japan, though.
  • Shinobu... you love English even you absolutely suck at it?
  • For a note, in my place the mother tongue is absolutely forbidden in English classes. Maybe the Japanese should seriously consider that...
  • Don't tell me because Alice is a British, she doesn't know the idea of nicknames...
  • While I know who watches this series... but should I expect moe to have entered the Japanese lexicon? It is the case in China, but the definition was decayed to include kawaiisa as well.
(Must leave for the lab now. Will write more later)

^Alice is fifteen, or she should be. In the first episode, Shinobu says 'a girl about my age', and Alice insists that she's a high schooler just like Shinobu in this latest one. She might be fourteen, but I wouldn't expect any younger than that.

It's been fun.

I have to constantly remind myself of how old they actually are, since as much as I'm used to people looking young in anime, especially moe, I still think they look way too long. I wouldn't have batted an eye if there hadn't been a time skip at all.

That was my typo. I intended to say I didn't know Alice's official height. I guess it's be in the range of 1.45m, though...

[up]
Alice looks even younger than Hidamari Sketch's Yuno, whom I regard as the archetype of this kind of character.

Points continued.

  • Oh, Shinobu, so where is Europe again?
  • Not my view, but the hair-brushing scene have elicited comparisons with... GJ-bu on imageboards.
  • The hair-dye exchange:
    • Shinobu, have you know the connotation of dyeing your hair yet, O Shinobu?
    • This again highlights what I said as the "main tension" of this show: Japanese-born Europhile vs England-born Japanophile.
  • (Hypocritical Humor chuckles regarding Shinobu's English omitted)
  • Yoko's Ho Yay speech towards Aya is so... direct...
  • Probably Alice is thinking of Cutesy Dwarf when the teacher gave her bunny ears...
  • And there comes Alice's Ho Yay line...
  • Yeah, Alice, I see your pain in everyone treating you Just a Kid... maybe you should chat with Yu-chan.
  • Going back to the beginning, courtesy to my wife: how does Shinobu get black pudding for breakfast?
