The Dursley family are indeed a muggle family. They're even part of the Trope Namer. However, the image does nothing to tell us what a muggle is. I vote to cut.

Agreed.

Also confusing is they're not pure muggles in the sense of the trope... they're aware of witches and wizards so they're kind of a confusing example.

I couldn't find the previous discussion, but I vaguely remember it, and it was generally agreed that they look mundane / mugglish in that picture (there is quite a bit of context: their clothes, relative positions/expressions, the decor...). I like it, at least well enough to prefer it over no page image at all.

[up] A muggle has to exist in a fantastic setting. The image does nothing to imply that.

They do have that intentional normal look. Keep Until Better Image Suggested.

^^ No they don't, Muggles just means "people without magic powers", and usually that is only notable if some people in that universe do have magic powers.

I'm not saying it's great, it's not, but it's better than nothing. They look boring / conventional / normal / dumb.

I'm gonna vote Keep Until Better Image Suggested on the grounds they look not just mundane, but ridiculously mundane.

I think we should look for a better one, but it's not bad enough to pull.

Out of curiosity, would a Real Life sea of people going about their normal, everyday, mundane lives convey this trope? Perhaps with the caption, "How pedestrian"? [1]

Alternatively, what about this screen-grab from Rise Of The Guardians with the children at the forefront and not noticing Jack Frost who is watching on in the background? [2]

[up] The size and motion blur make me think the second wouldn't look good at wiki size.

Yeah, I was worried about that too:

That's the best way I can make it: JPG—>PNG—>downsize.

Both the current and the suggestion suck.

The problem here is, how to depict the state of being "ordinary"? The only way I can think of doing this is to have one obviously unusual character amongst many totally ordinary people. But then the focus will be on the unusual character, which brings its own problems.

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to overcome these problems?

Perhaps a muggle next to a magic-user. Like, can we show Team Avatar or Katara bending next to Sokka not able to?

And how would you show "not able to" as opposed to "not doing it right now"?

Besides, I don't think it's a good idea to show a borderline example. A Badass Normal is only a muggle by technicality, but isn't treated like one by the story.
