Okay. I won't worry about going back through those. I thought I saw one that was only three chapters, but it was just incomplete. I'll bring up an example of one if I see it.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.Okay, here is an example of a short fic with multiple chapters released all at once: Out In The Cold. There are four chapters, 23,500 words, and posted all at once. Is that a One-Shot?
Oh, and Pattycakes is actually a two-parter.
I'm making a note if a fanfic has multiple chapters.

Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.I'd say it's a one-shot.
On Pattycakes, I'd almost say that's two separate works that go back to back, like the Karate Kid parts 1&II told one continuous story. So I 'd about say it's two One-Shots that go back-to-back.

shoboni, we're not here to decide on a definition of the term One Shot. If it's used as "one-chapter fanfic," then that's what we need to treat it as, not come up with arbitrary wordcount limits.

I'm just trying to make things easier by not throwing more subtropes into the mess when they're not needed. God only knows the problems we've had on TRS due to tropes with just very small, fine print differences(like Expy and it's related tropes)

I agree that when the term is pre-existing we absolutely need to sync up with how it's used.
I'd say that a one-shot is any fic that was written "in one shot" — whether or not it contains official chapter breaks is technically irrelevant to this, but the important part is it was composed all at once.
Of course, it's also true that writers may commingle "chapter" with "writing session", so most one-shots are by definition "one chapter"....

An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.I'm just worried about possible problems in the future if we two tropes that close.
In the meantime, I'm indicating if a fic has multiple parts, but would otherwise be a one-shot in YKTTW.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed. If it was uploaded in chunks it's a completed fic.
So, has there been any progress here?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanNot on the whole multi-shot vs one-shot thing.
What about making a crowner for the issue?
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Does this thread still need to be open? I do not see anything else to do. The current page for Completed Fic already excludes works of a "single installment".
I think we're down to the example mining stage and can hand this off to Long-Term Projects.
Works for me, want me to make the thread(or do we have one?)
This sounds more like a job for Short Term Projects.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI tend to agree.
Well, either way I think we're done here. If there are no objections I'll call for a thread lock after I get done eating lunch.
Crown Description:
What would be the best way to fix the page?
I say we go by what's easier, and two index is better than having three due to some arbitrary technicality. Length is length regardless of how chopped up it is. I say it should go this way:
One-Shot: Any fic below a certain word count that's posted all at once.
Completed Fic: Any fic that's above or a certain word count or posted over time.
