The Numbers War (Yu-Gi-Oh ZeXaL RP)

With the single ghoul following him, Naoto wheeled on his feet and prepared to duel.

"Foul ghoul, prepare yourself to be cleansed of your impurity." He locked eyes with it, and prepared his duel disk.

David smiled. He didn't say anything about the effect, he merely placed his hand across his duel disk and manipulated the cards on the disk as he needed.

As the smokebombs cleared, one of the set support cards had indeed returned, no longer on the field, whilst the other, a Trap card stood defiantly activated instead.

"I guess I should give you a bit more credit. It's fine though, I can set these wheels in motion without having you blunder into my trap. I activate Inverse Universe! That means the ATK and DEF points of all face-up Effect monsters gets switched around. Tomahawk might have 0 ATK, but it still has 3000 DEF."

He gave a dismissive wave, a signal to continue the duel after his chain.

Ichigo did his very best not to show how much seeing Aya eating that ice cream was effecting him.

"Y-yeah, every good duelist has a trick or two hidden up their sleeves."

Blackship lurches and groans, almost like it's stomach was growling. It was facing the direction of the two powerful Number Holders. It slowly made it's way towards them. Aya sensed this.

"M-more Number Holders. Powerful ones..."

She slowly got up and followed Blackship.

"I-Ichi? I-I don't wanna go alone..."

Anabella walked triumphantly toward Cyrus with an image of Sky Pegasus following closely behind. "I shall be taking what is mine." She said as numerous chains suddenly appeared from behind Sky Pegasus, reaching into Cyrus to forcefully rip out his less important Number.

"I'll be right here with you."

Ichigo said as he followed her.

Naoto's opponent looked like he was approximately ten years old and was undoubtedly one of the day-one victims. His skin was deathly pale and his eyes seemed completely empty and dead. His D-Gazer sent the request to Naoto's and the duel field quickly established itself.

Naoto Shakuro vs. Raine Strato - Duel Request Accepted

Raine drew his opening hand, operating slowly and somewhat clumsily. "I will be taking the first turn. Draw." The boy looked at his hand briefly before moving onto his actions. "I activate two copies of Cloudian Squall, set a monster and end my turn."

Cyrus howled in pain as the chain ravaged his soul to detach the Number like an Xyz Material. Except not at all, I just really wanted to use that metaphor. His body was flung back into the Galactic Wall, collapsing into a heap. He wasn't dead nor even unconscious, evidenced by his seething breaths. "You win this time, girl," he spat, bile in his voice. "But this is far from over. My graceful liege, we depart." Then, in a bright flash, Cyrus and Galaxy Queen were gone.

However, it wasn't for naught. Anabella held a glowing black card in her hand, which slowly dimmed and revealed itself. A tall warrior coated from head to toe in deep red armour wielded a single, razor sharp blade. Its long orange mane of hair was blowing in the wind behind it. The number 12 stilled glowed in its title.

Shinobu clutched her shoulder as she saw the vague outline of Crimson Shadow Armour Ninja hover above Anabella. That was her Number. She had to reclaim it... But first, there was this duel to finish. "As expected of a professional duelist. Very well then, I shall crush your allies first. I construct the Overlay Network using my Level 4 Ninja Grandmaster Hanzo and my Level 4 Masked Ninja Ebisu!"

A red portal opened up in the ground in front of Shinobu as the two ninjas formed into a purple and light green ball of light, respectfully. Shooting into the portal, Shinobu resumed her summon chant. "With the blades of shadows and speed of the wind, let neither man nor monster stand in your quest for conquest! Blade Armour Ninja!"

From the portal, a burst of light accompanied by a sudden shadow leaping up. The shadow would reveal itself as a ninja armed with two swords, a dim glow of hatred visible from the eyes beneath its helmet.

Blade Armour Ninja: 2200ATK

"Now, I detach an Xyz Material from Blade Armour Ninja to allow a Ninja monster I control to attack twice during this turn's battle phase! I choose Blade Armour! Now, destroy the Russian's face-down monster then attack him directly!"

The ninja leapt forward, spinning its two blades like fan blades as it approached the face-down monster.

Wanda drew, already bored with her weak opponent. "Maiden of the Macabre is once more affected by your Shocktopus's effect, bringing it back down to 600ATK. I activate the effect of Spell Power Grasp, granting it another Spell Counter and boosting it up to 800ATK. In addition, I add another Spell Power Grasp from my deck to my hand." The Spell Card shot into Wanda's spare hand. "Then I summon Crusader of Endymion in Attack Mode." The armoured magician rose to the field, roaring with indignation.

Shit just gets worse, huh? thought Kody to himself, looking down at 2700 damage right now. "Lemme guess, you're going to Xyz Summon now?"

Wanda shook her head. "And activate that face-down you have there? No, I shall attack directly with my monsters."

Kody groaned. He had specifically set up Vain - Despising Betrayal to get around Xyz Monsters but Wanda had somehow known. Was it his overeagerness that gave it away? Whatever the case it didn't matter now, as the two spellslinging monsters sent him sprawling on his backside.

"Very well, you hide behind your cards for your first move. Then I will Special Summon Cyber Dragon from my hand, and normal summon Star Drawing."

Both a large, powerful serpentine dragon of steel and a cute little magical girl with a star staff appeared on his field.

Raine idly waved. "Continue."

"Nice try, but is off to Gulag for you!" Vlad said, turning over a card. Dimensional Prison activated, targeting Blade Armor Ninja.

"I overlay these two in order to summon Tiras, Keeper of Genesis!"

Star Drawing seemed to outright just draw another star over herself as both she and Cyber Dragon turned into brilliant golden spheres that collided in the air, becoming a towering, ten foot tall humanoid angel with bright wings of white feathers and wielding what looked like a sword made of solar energy.

"And since I used Star Drawing in an XYZ Summon, I draw a new card."

Looking down at the card in his hand, Naoto shouted, "Tiras, attack his facedown with Seventh Star Sword!"

The angelic figure slashed once, and a blast of concentrated heat shaped like a slash wave leaped from its sword, rushing for facedown monster.

Aya, Blackship (and presumably Ichigo) are now in front of the two powerful Number Holders.

"Uh...um...Ichi I'm scared..."

The two Number Wielders stopped as they felt the presence grow stronger. The two wore long black cloaks with hoods that obscured their faces. The taller one turned to the shorter one. "You sure these kids are the one—" Both felt the ninth person's Number power weaken and the third's drastically increase. "Whatever, Numbers get lost and taken all the time. That doesn't mean they'll be of any use to us."

The shorter one looked at the taller one with bright blue eyes that shone beneath the hood. "..."

"You know, this whole thing would be a lot easier if you would talk to me," mused the taller one, kicking the snow in front of him. "And seriously, who had the bright idea to invent this shit?"

The shorter one slapped the taller one in the chest and pointed ahead of them. "..."

"Yeah," said the taller one, readying his duel disk. "I feel 'em too. They're coming."

Then the two were confronted by Ichigo and Aya. The taller one felt sort of sorry for Aya, feeling Blackship's powerful aura above her. As for the boy, he couldn't get a good read on his Number. He knew it was Giga Brill-Ant but... Its mind was so alien, even for a Number.

"Are you two kiddies alone?" asked the taller one in a surprisingly sweet voice. "Because, in case you haven't noticed, this place is a little dangerous."

"..."

Shinobu snarled as Blade Armour Ninja vanished into the void. Bad, bad, bad, BAD!! "I set another card face-down and end my turn!"

"If you want, you could leave and I can take these two on my own. All it means is that I get two Numbers instead of one."

Ichigo said to Aya in response to her statement.

"What's the matter? Getting a little flustered without your precious Blade Armor? Don't worry, I shouldn't expect too much more from a stream-monkey like you."

This could all be a bluff. I've already been careless with my back-row once, if I hadn't been able to use Inverse Universe in response I probably would have lost right there. Watch yourself Gray. She might be better than she's letting on and that is a lot of back-row.

Aya looked at the taller one.

"Th-the only thing dangerous is y-you two."

Reflexively (and subconsciously) she reaches for Ichigo's wrist.

"W-we're a team. We duel them together."

The taller one shrugged. "Listen, kids, we have no interest in taking your Numbers." Suddenly noticing something leaping up behind the kids, the tall one snarled. "Stand down, 74!" Only visible to the other Numbers, a tall warrior wielding blades held one and was poised to strike Ichigo if he had been given a moment more. The Number reluctantly lowered his blade and appeared over the tall man's shoulder.

"Now, as I was saying before I was rudely interrupted, we have no interest in taking your Numbers. Now, as I asked before, is it just the two of you or are the rest of the Number users back there your friends?"

Blackship tilted a little as it looked at Number 74, like an animal cocking it's head.

"Y-yes they are..."

They don't wanna fight?

Ichigo, not even noticing that 74 was ready to cut him down, tilted his head.

"If you aren't here to take our Numbers, what are you here for?"

The taller one shrugged. "It's... Kinda hard to explain. Not to mention certain parties have eyes and ears everywhere..."

"..."

The taller one looked back to his partner and nodded. "Yeah, I feel it too." He turned to Ichigo and Aya. "Listen, we won't be able to take all your friends with us. It'll attract too much unwarranted attention. Just know that this area? Some weird cult guy is running this place now. Watch yourselves. If you ever need any help..." The man dipped his hand into his cloak and pulled out what looked like some sort of flare. "Find some alley or something and set this off. We'll get to you guys as soon as possible."

"..."

"I'm pretty sure I didn't forget anything..." The taller one jumped as he realized something. "Oh right. The best way to protect yourselves getting robbed of your Numbers is to try and keep dueling in pairs or more. Of course, you can't get Numbers this way but your safety should come first."

Raine covered his eyes as his Cloudian - Ghost Fog was destroyed. "Is that all?"

"And then, when I end my battle phase, my Tiras' effect activates. Now go, God's Pressure!"

A heavenly light surrounded one of the Cloudian Squalls, and the card's representation on the field exploded.

"I activate Generation Force next, letting me add XYZ Reborn from my deck to my hand. I set one card face down, and end my turn with that."

And with that, one of the two golden spheres surrounding Tiras flew into Naoto's graveyard, one remaining.

Aya reluctantly takes the flare.

"Th-thank you. It's nice to know there's still good people here."

She smiles at the hooded figures.

For some reason I feel a little braver.

"Let's get back to the others Ichi."

"Is my turn now," Vlad said, pulling a card. He immediately set it down, activating Medallion of the Ice Barrier. General Gantala of the Ice Barrier emerged from the deck, and into his hands.

"Now you, and you, is time to make way for Comrade General," he added, causing both cards on the field to be face up - Secret Guards of the Ice Barrier, and Prior of the Ice Barrier - as he summoned Gantala.

"Comrade General, this one is for Portsmouth!" he called out, with the General attacking Shinobu.

Shinobu braced herself for the attack but it still knocked her off her feet.

Shinobu's LP: 4000 -> 1300

"That... The best you got?"

Raine frowned as his Squall was destroyed, but drew for his next turn nonetheless. "During my Standby Phase, my remaining Cloudian Squall activates, placing a Fog Counter on all face-up monsters." A cloud-shaped badge fell from the sky and attached itself to Naoto's Xyz monster.

"Next, I set another monster and another face-down and end my turn."
