I've read a number of stories on FF. Net that are basically retellings of fairytales, legends or myths in whatever fandom they are written for. Due to my love of Tolkien and the Volsunga Saga, I cooked up an idea for an AU with Bard playing the role of Sigurd, Thorin playing the role of Regin, and Smaug playing the role of Fafnir.*

Odin would be played by Gandalf. My problem is that I want names for two female OCs who would play the roles of Brynhild and Gudrun, and I have no idea how to invent plausible names for them.

Honestly wouldn't bother with OC's: you've got the folks so far from Middle Earth, get the others.

For Brynhild, I could suggest the woman who's name eludes me at the moment, she was known as the White Lady of the Noldor, was forward in arms from what I can recall, ended up marrying the Dark Elf Eol. Luthien would also work for Brynhild, an unafraid Action Girl, desirable prize set with a great bride-price.

For Gudrun, Nienor.

[up] Aredhel Ar-Feinel. Actually fits as Brynhild was a Valkyrie and immortal while she was in the service of Odin. Aredhel was an Elf and immortal. However, Luthien would also fit as she gave up her immortality like Brynhild does.

Idril Celebrindal, too, although she sort of worked backwards (got her husband to give up his mortality... somehow), and she was less headstrong.

Sidebar: Tuor really got the best ending of pretty much anyone in the Silmarillion.

Supernatural has a lot of these. There's at least one of Chicago (gender flipped), Beauty and The Beast, Buffy The Vampire Slayer (season 1), and Titanic. I've also seen one of Harry Potter that's not really a retelling of it, but takes place many years later in that universe.

did you like it? I did, but I'm not the best judge when it comes to fairy tale retellings.

It's one of my favorite movies.

shameless self promo here, I wrote a (shortish) retelling of an Italian fairy tale and put it on fanfiction.net. if anyone wants to read and maybe leave a review? I'm working on another retelling too.
