You're making way too much of a big deal over this.

And gonna be blunt, Suicide Squad romanticized an abusive relationship and he should've bashed the hell out of it for that.

It's not big government. It's Youtube's highly outdated copyright system.

[up][up] Doug has a tendency to completely overlook a lot of subtext, particularly social. The fact he overlooks SS's message of "abusive relationships are a-ok" is nothing new, sadly.

At least it's better than if Doug were to have defended the entire romance for whatever reason.

[up]He did. Well, its placement anyway.

Yeah, there's a lot of subtleties Doug won't pick up on. Like the Real thoughts on Mortal Kombat where he didn't address that the plot is pretty much Enter the Dragon. Or the use of music here. Or FX in Jurassic World vs the prior film.

I liked the Suicide Squad review, more than the Jurassic Park one. The deadpan delivery of pointing out the stupidity worked and the energy in the performances made it work. Maybe a few stills from the film, like what Enchantress's minions look like, would have helped.

But really... romanticising the Joker-Harley relationship? The whole point of Suicide Squad is making entertainment from the worst of humanity operating in the most dysfunctional manner. Abusive relationships are just another depravity to exploit. And the Critic underlined it.

My sister's watching the review and I'm overhearing it.

  • A few seconds in and they go making fun of the reshoots and Jared Leto. (Am I a bad/stupid person if I say I liked Leto!Joker?)
  • Grrrrrr. Critic doesn't bother calling Amanda Waller by her full name. It feels weird calling someone like Amanda Waller just "Amanda".
  • They piss on Deadshot's fight with Batman, making it seem like Batman wanted to kill Deadshot. Grrrrr.
  • Jesus, these executives are driving me nuts in this review...
  • Critic playing Rick Flagg? Ehhhhhh.
  • They screwed up Slipknot's death.
  • No, Critic. You don't diss Amanda Waller. She disses you. Also, white guy yelling at a black woman is really unsettling.

To be continued, because dinner and my sister's joining my mom in watching 30 Rock on Netflix.

But suffice it to say, I'm really not feeling this review. Really, not having clips kind of kills it, doesn't it?

Just watched the review, and while I haven't seen the movie, I have read the original comics by John Ostrander, so it's not as if I don't have any grounding to speak of going into this thing. I will say that the Critic's spot on with calling out the very conception of the Squad as flawed from the get-go. In the comics, it made sense. The Squad was formed not to go up against Superman or anyone on his level, but instead to have expendable agents doing the kinds of missions Superman and his ilk would never do while also being personally on the Government's payroll. Forming the Squad to actually go up against Superman as a matter of course isn't a bad idea in and of itself, but it is when barely no-one in the Squad is capable of actually going to to toe with him, not to mention the other heroes working together could probably deal with him if it came down to it anyway.

And then there's of course the matter of pressganging someone as unstable, uncontrollable, and unstoppable as the Enchantress. Which is another problem with the movie, because in the comics, not only was the Enchantress sane, (if still a loose cannon,) but her civilian host got a lot more focus, and the Squad actually had a means of controlling the Enchantress via a magic ring and necklace. None of which apparently made it into the actual film. Because if it had, it might actually make sense, and we can't have that, can we?

Anyhoo, even though I never saw the movie, I still liked the review and didn't have a problem with it. Though I still see how others might.

Um, except the NC isn't a review show. It's a comedy.

Suicide Squad should have had the Joker as the villain. I hate Jared Leto and his interpretation, but it would have made sense, thematically, for what was going on.

[up]T He proglem with that is just risk of him hijacking the movie, is not the first time he hijack other stories incluing arkham assult, while I think Leto need more time to find is spot as joker, I kinda like they show him doing is on thing without trying to overtake the damn movie.

[up][up][up]in the movie enchantress can be control but she find way of outsmarth waller using her on brother, so is more a case of I didnt see that coming.

The first viewing videos are sort of like DVD extras; if they get taken down, it's not as big a deal as if the main review is taken down.

I'm uncomfortable with people being uncomfortable on principle with a white man berating a black woman. It means reducing these two to their sex and race and ignoring what they're saying and doing. Do you have the same reaction to well-off university students protesting against someone elected mostly by poor unskilled workers?

I agree that the whole scene was obnoxious though. Someone other than the critic should have done it.

Well first, how is the rant problematic? You can argue that it was annoying, too long, unfunny, obnoxious, whatever, but problematic?

And how do you do it without ranting anyway? The fact that the movie tries to justifies itself when the plot is inherently stupid warranted a rant in my opinion.

I feel if he'd ranted at the writers rather than Waller herself the same point could have been made but without the Unfortunate Implications.

Doug and Rob were severely frustrated at that moment in the movie.

They wanted to portray that frustration in the review.

Ergo, have Critic portray that frustration in the review.

I don't see how else they could have done it. What, you want him to change that characters' ethnicity??
