Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is a good place to start. I've also used CA Antivirus, Spy Sweeper and, funnily enough, the official Microsoft antivirus program, Microsoft Security Essentials, to great effect.
YUUGI WANTS YOU FOR DRINKING BUDDYThanks.
I use a combination of AVG and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, as well as Advanced Systemcare to do the general maintenance. My laptop's almost three and it works almost as well as it did when I first got it.
I just installed avast antivirus is it just as good?.
I don't know, but Alyac keeps giving me ads. Frickin' annoying.
If you're not sure, you can go with Avast!.
I use Avast and it seems to work pretty well.
Formatting.
I personally use Malware Bytes' Anti Malware and ESET NOD 32 Antivirus. Both work great and are relatively affordable.
Spybot Search and Destroy is a good program to have too, and I believe it's free.

Fear is a superpower. If you plan on installing Avast!, make sure and delete any default MacAfee antivirus your computer might have come with. I made the mistake of installing Avast! at the same time as the default MacAfee product and they caused so much trouble between them my laptop BSOD'ed. Uninstalling them both fixed the problem.
Schild und Schwert der ParteiFrom what I hear, Avast gives a lot of false positives.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Basically anything but Norton is decent, since Norton is nearly Malware itself.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."I go with NOD 32, updates itself often (but in the background and you don't even notice it doing so) and I've yet to catch anything since installing it many years back.
Through the eyes I have known you.I had uninstall avast! as it would not let connect to the internet.
I'm going to reinstall some stuff since I had to start from zero after a powerful malware that not even Malwarebytes could fix it. What do you think it's the best combination of antivirus + anti-malware? I don't know if I should put Avira and Malwarebytes again. Can someone help me, please?

AVG Free Edition works well with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware's free version. And that's some bad luck on the malware.

Thanks! By the way, I saw your post above. Is the Advanced Systemcare worth installing?
Only if you can afford to buy it. It's shareware and the free version doesn't do anything to fix your computer/laptop. A friend bought me a copy of it, so I don't know how much it costs. It's mostly just general maintenance that fixes minor errors that slow your computer down, still good though if you can afford to pay for it.
Ok. Thanks for the info and for helping me decide.
Sure thing. Always good to help someone pick good anti-virus software, especially after years of playing tech support for other people.
But seriously, the best antivirus there is are healthy internet habits. Dont download shady shit, dont click on stupid ads and learn to tell when a website is trying to bullshit you into downloading and installing evilware.
This. Common sense and a healthy knowledge of how to get around the internet is your best bet.
Of course, this is assuming no rogue ads show up, but eh.

For actual antivirus, best I can really say is avoid Norton like the plague.
so i had to uninstall norton antivirus because it made my computer slow and i was wondering what alternatives there is.
