Bad comparison. "Fat stupid American" jokes annoy me to no end. I can see how someone would be upset by the Scottish equivalent.
But that's what I mean. Sure, they're obnoxious, but offensive? By this point, hardly.

I think John Lasseter's gone mad with power.

Obnoxious things are offensive. That's what the word means. It's just that for many people, it's not flag-waving, rally-in-the-streets offensive. But it's still offensive, and shows either a lack of understanding or a lack of care for the culture those kinds of jokes are mocking.

Meh. Like I said, I see it more as just lazy humor than as actual mockery.

Just imagine the movie were not about Scots but about Native Americans. The only reason Brave gets away with it is because Scots are considered acceptable targets and most people are blissfully unaware of the sad history of this folk. Honestly, between all the movies Pixar and Disney made, this is the one which makes me uncomfortable. But it's not like Pixar didn't always tend to delve into clichés when it comes to foreign countries. They are usually just more careful to create actual characters to balance the tendency out.

But they already did that with Native Americans.

And maybe I'm just ignorant, but are Scots really as oppressed as Native Americans at all? Not trying to get into the Oppression Olympics here, but there is a big difference between a group of people that has had their entire land stolen from them and given nowhere to go but tiny little spaces that couldn't even fit a small family and a group of people that literally is its own country.

It just happened longer ago, that's all. Look up the Battle of Culloden and perhaps research what happened after - and what actually lead to it. You don't really want to know how many Scottish people died of hunger under the reign of the British, because nearly everything was taken from them. (plus, there is a small difference between taking away the land by forcing one to leave and taking it away by putting an English Lord in charge of it). And don't forget that Scotland is still not an independent country, despite having an own culture. Granted, a lot of Scots are worried that they won't be able to survive on their own by now, and the arrangement might be for the best, but that doesn't change the fact that this is a folk with a long history of suppression. Either way, it's a fine line between making fun of stereotypes and enforcing them, and I think Brave falls on the side of enforcing them. Never mind that jokes about what the Scot has under his kilt have been old long before I was even born.

Disney has confirmed the rumors of Bob Peterson's step down from Director. He's still working at Pixar on another project.

Specifically, to the date that Finding Dory (which has been pushed to summer 2016) used to be in. Sometime in November, I think.

Okay. Development Hell example. Already.

This means we won't get a new Pixar movie until 19 months from now.

Better they delay it and make sure they release it when its ready than to rush it out and release a sub-par film.
