Current name makes it sound like there's a new idiot introduced every week. Given the fact the trope is actually about an existing character being a strawman for the current week, I say we change it to Strawman Of The Week or Strawman Ball.

Good idea. And unlike most of our War On Straw pages, it seems like this would be a correct use of the term "strawman."

Any preference? I like Strawman Ball a bit more, since it implies it's an existing character who's becoming the strawman.

By looking at the name alone, I thought that this was the idiot equivalent off Monster of the Week as well. Definitely needs a rename. If you're gonna snowclone a name, it should at least follow the same formula as the original. It also misuses The Watson in the description. This trope is just when someone in the main cast takes a wrong opposing viewpoint in an episode.

Strawman Ball is a good name.

I don't know which names to pick, really.

The trope doesn't seem all that heavily used, so a namechange might help with that.

Strawman Ball makes the most sense considering both itself and our own naming patterns.

”Of the week" implies a one-shot character, like Monster of the Week. "Ball" implies that it's a recurring character whose turn it is to "hold the ball".

[down] Well, if you look at the Ball Index and the Index of the Week, the difference is pretty clear. This trope is clearly better suited as a ball than a week.

I thought for a moment this is like Masked Ball :) Does that mean we're overusing 'ball' snowclones now?

We could also have Strawman For A Day, if we think Ball is overused/unclear.

That does seem clearer than another Ball trope.

Seems like there's a consensus for a name change.

Crowner to pick it?

The crowner's been up for a week. Consensus is pretty clear. 12 to 0 for Strawman Ball. Let's call this.

Did the rename and tagging.

Only the discussion needs moving, then this can be closed.
