Specifically, I'm thinking of doing a Mass Effect game. As much as Bioware likes to talk a good game, biotics are Space Magic, so I consider it Space Opera and not sci-fi.

I have taken a look at Alternity, but while I like the main system, I despise the combat system as it's explained. My other thought was modifying the powers in Scion or Aberrant to reflect biotics usage in the game, but that would be a fairly large investment of my time. I know there is a semi-official Star Wars d6 version, but I am totally unfamiliar with that system and don't own any of the books.

If you're willing to work hard at it you can hammer your game into any system.

Though it would probably be easier to go with something simple like GURPS that's purposely generic just for such adaptations.

But that's a story for another time.

Insert my obligatory shameless plug for Legend here. Lends itself well to most forms of high-powered fantasy / space opera in my experience.

And if that's too underpowered for you, try Strike Legion.

Savage Worlds

It's easy, and would require only minimal conversion. The Scifi companion and Slipstream books would also offer more stuff to draw from for a purposely scifi settings.

Do you mean the Star Wars hack of the Apocalypse World system?

Depends on what you are after. If mechanics and player prep are your thing, go for something like GURPS. If you want something story focused, FATE or World system hack. Here is a simple guide to hack the World system into... Anything, really.

There was an official d6 version of Star Wars at some point, before Wot C bought the rights to Star Wars RP Gs.

((Also, space opera is still sci-fi. Soft sci-fi, but still sci-fi. You're thinking of space fantasy.))

Thanks for the suggestions. [thumb up] I've heard good things about FATE, but haven't looked at it; if Legend is based off of Pathfinder than I should be able to familiarize myself with it, though I'm a tiny bit leery about a fantasy-themed game for a futuristic sci-fi game, no matter how soft that sci is.

Legend is very loosely based on 3.5 and is designed to be fluff-independent. Also, one of the track options is a Jedi in everything but name. It handles sci fi and space opera just fine.
