This anime is awesome. And I'll state exactly why, to me, it's awesome: it's full of style and insanity. And I love style and insanity. Especially in action anime, which is a genre that is rather hard to please me with.
If anything this reminds me the most about Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt.
The student council DEFINITELY does. Needs more Trrrilling Rrrs though. ;)

I am just going to call this Tengen Toppa School Uniform and roll with it.
This seems fun enough. I mean, this season was kinda lacking for me, all I was planning on was Valvrave The Second, so it's nice to see something else that could be interesting. And it does remind me much of Gurren Lagann indeed, which I did find rather enjoyable. Sooooo yay.
And yeah for a second I thought the whole "amg anime is saved" thing was serious, to which I would be forced to point to the very recent Gargantia to counter the prospect it needed saving. Sure there's a lot of moe rubbish and forgettable shounen running around, but there's plenty of stuff that's still quite excellent and overall worth considering on an artistic and literary merit.

Why do you fight? Why do you exist?Ironiccally, TTGL and this Series are technically classified under the Shounen Demographic (As is Attack On Titan).
So by saying many modern shonen in general is mediocre, you'd have to correct people by pointing this out.
What I think you mean is Mediocre Fighting Series, which can be a part of Seinen as well as shonen, but even then, I can't help but disagree.

Watch SymphogearI think people on both sides of the argument are blowing things out of proportion. No one is suggesting that Kill La Kill is high literature, and no one is denying how it's frenetic and dumb fun. I mean, seriously, with Imaishi at the helm, would you expect something as sedate as Hyouka? Of course not.
"Serious business" is all fine and well, but I don't think there's a place for that here yet.
Edit: Stupid autocorrect...

Besides, considering who the director is, I wouldn't be surprised if she pulls out a Giga Drill Breaker like the boxer did in the first episode.
Watch SymphogearDid the homeroom teacher◊ remind anybody else of another famous instance of The Glasses Come Off?
The "saving anime" thing is seriously overblown, true. It's not all moeshit and pedophile pandering. Just this season there's lot interesting anime.
Anyone who came expecting something other than hyperactive action and humor is setting themselves up for disappointment.
Also did I mention that Ryuuko uniform is awesome?
I kinda rolled my eyes at it and wished it didn't have to be so blatantly fanservicey, but maybe there is hope indeed of it getting more modest as time goes on, which would be one of the more awesome things I've seen in an anime.
Though for all that I do have to admit it's still pretty badass.
Why do you fight? Why do you exist?I don't care if it's blatantly fanservicey if it looks good.
Which it does.
And I never jumped the "it will save Anime" Bandwagon, since I said it would save it....from nothing much.

Watch SymphogearMan, I don't know. I actually got a lot of interesting ideas from TTGL, for one. Well, not a lot of different ones so much as one massive ton of an idea. What I mean to say is that it's very well possible to get across some genuinely intelligent thought in a format like this, and there's a precedent for it.
(Also I don't mind the "saving anime" joke, but it seems a little late now that the first season of Attack on Titan is done.)

I didn't mind the fanservice as much bc it was obviously there as a gag. All the examples were over-the-top ridiculous. (I liked the fact that the uniform gives you armor in areas it doesn't even cover ).. I can see it ending up like Date A Live, which had a ridiculous Panty Shot in the first minute and then was pretty normal the rest of the series.
I havn't been here that long, so I havn't had fans turn me off something yet. (The UQ Holder thread is probably the most ridiculous I've seen and that didn't bother me). Not sure where the SAVING ANIME thing came from. Saving Anime from what? Well thought out, serious messages? Was that ever a danger?

@Kyle Jacobs: Yeah, I thought the exact same thing. This show has so much frantic energy to it. I loved this episode and I will be in it for the long haul.
Also, did anyone notice that the school, which is at the very top of the city, looks like a mecha's head. I wonder if that's final boss.
Okay, the thread's getting better now. I might still need to avoid it, because I don't want people to tell me how stupid the stupid things are, and nor do I want to tell me how awesome the awesome things are, but it's nor longer actively making me want to attack everybody.
(The issue with the 'Saving Anime' joke, incidentally, is how it is to tell whether or not any particular person knows it's a joke.)

Just watched the first episode and it is quite odd.
Things I liked: The uniforms are cool and the main character, her 'friend' and the President seem interesting.
Things I didn't like: It is far too cartoony for my liking and too fast paced
It seems to be an entertaining show but I get the feeling it may be trying too hard.
Considering TTGL is a Newbie Boom for a lot of younger anime fans, its only natural they'd overrate something the creators would make. My friend had that same attitude towards the people who think this show is the second coming of Anime or some shit, but I told him to just watch the damn episode and he ended up enjoying it.
Moral of the story: Don't let fans define your view for something.
On the show itself...I really like how Ryuuko is aware of how fanservicy her outfit and actively dislikes it, puts a new spin on it. She's like the Anti-Yoko.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Ryuko seems pretty awesome in general. Quite pleasant.
Why do you fight? Why do you exist?I'm watching the first episode. The voices actors are having a lot of fun doing their job.
My work is here. Current main fic: Tengen Toppa Gurren SolverniaBefore the first episode came out, I thought it was a bit over-hyped, but now I'm sure this will be one of the good ones.
A love that crushes like a mace.Well, I have to read the rest of the thread but I want to post my first impression now:
I liked it. It's a Category 5 Cliché Storm, but enjoyable, they manage to make everything so over-the-top that this is just a minor thing. I'm getting used to characters like Shinji, Madoka, Yukiteru, that it's been a while since I saw a character like Ryuuko, that already starts as a badass. The striperrific outfit was really annoying but hopefully the writers will toss in characterization to compensate because, knowing them, this is only going to get worse. The moe stereotype is the Butt-Monkey, that was a good plus. Also, the villain is The Party, that was another good plus.

My work is here. Current main fic: Tengen Toppa Gurren SolverniaNah, you guys are not giving KLK enough credit.
It's not mindless. It's in fact very deliberate in all the things it did in the first episode.
Yeah, I don't like the design of the outfit when she's in combat mode, but I do like how they seem aware of it and lampshade it, plus it seems to look like it'll become less so over time.
Plus, it's partially her fault that the suit is so damn skimpy.
Dressed to Kill....how?
Why do you fight? Why do you exist?
I can see why some people think that. I mean, that's pretty much the same sort of rationale people have for hating the JJ Abrams Star Trek films, especially Into Darkness, which is filled to the brim with plot holes and universe inconsistencies that stretch suspension of disbelief even by Star Trek standards. But in this case, I'd probably try to let it slide because it's its own universe with its own rules that are meant to be broken because they can, and it seems awesome enough to get away with it.
