Yeah, I fully agree with Moe and Rain. It establishes things as fictional and makes absolutely zero sense, so, um, yeah.
One of the reasons I'm very against Fisher Kingdom is that it kind of destroys the point in playing characters if they constantly change.
"Oh, dear. The toad, the monkey, and the dog have all screwed up."Well, 'zero sense' is a but harsh. It sounds like sort of a Discworldian, Sandman-ish thing.
Exist, pursued by bearIf it were to be used, it establishes everything as "just stories", which isn't how anything works in most of the settings that are going to be used. They're just stuff happening in people's lives, only much more dramatic most of the time.
If everything's established as just there for stories, and therefore essentially fictional, it removes pretty much any weight of anything that happens. Discworld gets around this because it's a world that runs of narratives, but it's still not just there for stories. It exists for reasons other than being a story.
"Oh, dear. The toad, the monkey, and the dog have all screwed up."Ah, fair enough.
Also, in one of my own stories, various characters are revealed to just be stories reconstructed in a virtual world. However, it's still important because by that point, the closest thing to 'real' is a handful of raiders on a bleak, dead world, and everyone else is permanently hooked up to a giant series of simulations.
The 'everything is fiction' angle thus works because that's all their is.
ALSO ALSO
I might play as a freaky alien or one of the Four Lords. Haven't decided yet. o_O;
Please don't introduce starfish aliens or other things like that; it means the one character stops anyone else from playing a character that would react to such things with "DESTROY THE ELDRITCH ABOMINATION!"
Avatar SourceThen don't make those caharacters. Seems simple enough.
UhYeah, I mean... what?
So, I can't play as one of my own OCs/races/what-have-you because... it'd create conflict and/or character tension? Isn't the whole point of a cross-over to see and test the reactions of characters in situations they would never encounter in their own stories?
I mean, has it been stated we'll all be on the same side anyway? o_O;
So... one person's choice of a character that looks like a baby Old One means nobody else is allowed to have characters that would attack such a thing, Minun? >.>
Conflict between OC's = power arguments = drama = no fun. Or someone loses a character. :/
Hum. I just see it ending badly, honestly, unless characters are artificially friendly to such things and then everything seems like bad writing. >.<

Avatar SourceThis is a more detailed description of what I was talking about.
Are they aware they are fictional? To some degree; they know a god created them and refer to it as the Author. Magic and advance science exist in this world alond with monsters. There is a religious order called the written order that servers the Author and does Author knows what. The closes this places is to a fisher kingdom is that is screws with memories cause false memories, erasing memories, but all a random and with no rhyme or reason to what happens to people's memories if it affects them at all. Some of the wierd quirks are people aren't born but made, people don't die like regular beings but instead to a goop and are slowly erased from existence, and to live the denizens of the world need a special crystal which outsiders woundn't be required to have, but when outside there home dimension they don't require the crystals anymore. Is this world still so bad?

It comes. The corrupter comes. Don't let it touch the tower lest all reality crumble.Well, your wording implied a much stronger reaction than just attacking it.

UhWould allow starfish aliens as long as there's precautions taken so that people don't automatically assume it's a monster.
As for Phil's idea... Still a no. Sorry.
...Going to try and figure out what to do with this. Still not entirely sure what the plot will be but we'll see. Please don't argue so much when this is still in the planning phases, okay? >.<
The character I'd have in mind (Lee is definitely his name) would probably scream like a girl more than try to attack it.
@Moerin
Cool, cool. If it isn't much of a bother could I know what is wrong with the land? I'm not using it. I'll use Dimension Wars for the crossover, which bring up, could I use a villain?
It comes. The corrupter comes. Don't let it touch the tower lest all reality crumble.Well, other than the metafictional aspect not exactly sitting well with me, the whole part about screwing with people's memories sounds very iffy to me. Sorry.
And... I'm not sure about villains. Uh, let me get some stuff sorted out first before I come to that decision, okay? >.<
Ok, and thanks. It was supposed to be a metafictional story, and I completely understand and respect your refusal.
It comes. The corrupter comes. Don't let it touch the tower lest all reality crumble.Okay, to get something straight - I only said 'freaky alien'. How alien is that? About this alien (though probably dressed in some sort of full-body armour).
I'm not talking about playing a villain or some sort of incomprehensible, fifth-dimensional being that feeds off of the souls of children and the colour blue.
My character's gonna be an enigmatic, alien figure who sort of follows and assists the others from the shadows. I think. Depends on the circumstances, but probably.
@Daze: I never said it had to be physical conflict - some kind of conflict (not necessarily physical - could be emotional/mental) between characters is kind of the lifeblood of a story, unless everyone is going to just automatically love everyone else. o_O;
That's... not what I was thinking when you said 'weird alien'. Try this sort of thing.◊ Weird alien = incomprehensible things. XD
Mental conflict, yes. Physical conflict is to be avoided. Does not end well with OC's. >.<

UhWell, if the form of the crossover is decided it'll be easier to decide the plot. Would it be okay if I directly linked to the project I'll use for this?
"The Omniverse is the collection of all possibilities, and all possibilities must eventually come to pass."I'm going to go ahead and second some things here.
I'm very against things going too far into metafiction, or things that seriously mess with character memories, abilities, personality, or appearance.
I also think what's important is to balance unique appearance with relatability. While this turned out to not be a problem, I still think it's good to mention that no-one should be considering playing anything like what was in that picture Rain linked. Min-cthuluhus are hard to interact with, eh-heh.
"Oh, dear. The toad, the monkey, and the dog have all screwed up."I've got some definite interest in this. Maybe I can revive my inspiration for the world I started last year.
Its basically Mecha Musume girls vs. Eldritch Abominations with political gymnastics every now and then.

PM box is Closed, Indefinitely Friend Code: 3368-4181-6850... And I just imagined gymnastics competitions to determine elections instead of the metaphorical way which is what you most likely meant.
"Oh, dear. The toad, the monkey, and the dog have all screwed up."Can we also agree to not describe aliens as weird unless they're Starfish Aliens or something? Aliens are meant to be somewhat weird, if they're not we get Human Aliens and Rubber Forehead Aliens, which are strangely normal.

Avatar SourcePersonally I think that sounds amazing, but, uh, yeah.
Right, going to try and work on the plot tonight and tomorrow, so hopefully we'll have something up soon on that front. Good to know there's interest in the concept, though.
I can contribute my main worldbuilding project, Dumundi (think Low Fantasy Steampunk with lots of weird creatures and monsters). It also sort of ties into The Four Lords, though exactly how is kind of spoilerific, so I'm a little unsure how to work it. :/
It really depends which sounds more interesting to you guys, since the setting changes massively depending on 'time period':
1) A post-apocalyptic world where humanity survives inside a giant, semi-organic computer system (kind of like The Matrix but sillier and less hostile, also squelchier) and Silhouettes ('digital cyborgs') protect the population.
2) Alternately, if we go further into the past, we wind up two-hundred years into the future - a world of deconstructions of hard science and Faster-Than-Light Travel, which ultimately leads into a sort of Cosmic Horror and the end of the world.
3) Alternatively again, we go, really, really far into the future, where we arrive at aforementioned Low Fantasy Steampunk with weird aliens.
Also, Fisher Kingdom could be interesting, but I'm not bothered if we don't go with that. o-O;
