If you watch early Disney shorts. and compare them to other stuff made by other studios around the same time (I'm talking late 20's, early 30's) it's really rather astonishing how much better the Disney stuff is, on both technical and story levels.
I was never much impressed with Oswald once Walter Lantz took it over at Universal. I don't really think Disney was missing much in not having Oswald around, but if it was important to them to get hold of him in some capacity, then good for them.
Why? The classic Disney characters all canonically live in the same universe to begin with.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."If they brought back House of Mouse (pretty tall order, though), I'd like to see the CG characters stay CG. It'd be fun to see CG and 2D animated characters interacting, as in The Amazing World of Gumball.
I have this pet theory that in the Roger Rabbit universe, CG characters are half-Toon, half-human hybrids.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?I could live with that. Just as long as they don't convert 2D characters to CG.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.I think Walt was always about pushing the medium and taking it to a new level. I remember finding out that Snow White came out in the 1930's and being kinda flabbergasted since I had no idea how they would have made something that elaborate back then. But they had to start somewhere, I guess.
One critic actually described John Barrymore (who attended the premiere) as bouncing up and down in his seat when he saw Snow White, he liked it so much.
There was a pretty stark change of mood when the film was actually released in general. I think most of us are familiar with the story of how the film's production was troubled, people thinking it wouldn't succeed, Disney mortgaging his house to finance it, etc but once it was actually in theaters people thought it was the greatest thing ever and it made an enormous amount of money.
I tend to think of Walt as belonging to a group of the few genuine visionaries of the world since he had such a strong vision and turned out to be right whenever it really mattered.
Before we move on from Roger Rabbit completely, I'd just like to point out that in this interview from a few days ago, Gary Wolf intimates that the WFRR sequel is still being talked about.
Ignore the awkward site design.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?Just how will it work though? And will the other companies be willing to let Disney borrow their characters again?
If Steven Spielberg is on board (and to my recollection, his only objection to the original prequel screenplay was that it made the Nazis too Wacky, which he thought was in poor taste), anything is possible. I don't think they'd be talking about it if all they had was the Disney cartoon stable.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?Given the success and reputation of the first movie, they'd be rather silly not to lend their characters to it. Remember too that Disney was able to get a number of different video-game companies to lend their characters to Wreck-It Ralph, and look how well that turned out.
With as relatively little exposure that most of those classic cartoon characters get anymore, it couldn't hurt them to see the light of day again. Might help the respective owners keep their copyrights renewed, too.

Speaking of the TV shows, recently I remembered a funny case of Arbitrary Skepticism from an episode of Duck Tales.
Captain Courage: We're not going home until after we meet the aliens.
Launchpad: There's no such thing as aliens.
Says the guy who lives in a show where supernatural stuff is as common as trees.
I smell magic in the air. Or maybe barbecue.Launchpad may not believe in the If Jesus, Then Aliens argument.
Going back to the Mouseworks short format, one idea I thought might have tons of potential, is if they made little shorts of the old Disney films out of recreated deleted scenes. Say, they inked and coloured stuff like the bed making scene for Snow White, or put the multiple strange Bambi ideas like the swallowed bee gag into animation. Give it some well made bookends so it works as a standalone cartoon and voila.
This would not only be a cool way for Disney to play off of old classics without succumbing to Sequelitis, but would do so in a way that could actually please old film and animation buffs since it's actually basing itself off of old material (it sort of appeals to Walt's case, who was often left sad about how much stuff didn't make the final product). A What Could Have Been: The Series.

But in a world where there are square eggs that come from square chickens?...
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."I am wondering how Mickey 'n Friends would look in the "Penn Zero/Tangled The Series" style.
Unless those chickens are alien chickens, not really.
IIRC, that was an early episode in the series and the first time in that series they ever met aliens.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.New Cars 3 trailer. This one highlights Jackson Storm a bit.
I have a feeling that they are going to wear out "the beach ate me" in the movie's TV spots.
"Pardon me, that extremely loud and extremely deep voice you may have just heard. It was me. Oh, it is such a long story..."So, any talks about Netflix and Disney renewing their streaming services after 2018? And what's this about a company called Bamtech that's skyrocketing to the point of talks with Disney?
Love tearing bad movies to shreds? Join us every night at 8 PMLate to this but the main Disney channel posted a video celebrating Mother's Day with a small bit of Coco footage at the end.
I FRICKING LOVED IT!
The "Mama Coco" part was soooo cute and the speech is REALLY Latin American without being stereotypical. Just a regular Mexican kid!
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.We had Mother's Day ages ago here in Britain, but how's about something from Disney's most famous mom?

We haven't had any new episodes of Tangled: The Series for a while. Don't tell me it's over already. :(
I smell magic in the air. Or maybe barbecue.I just realized any cartoon Steven Spielberg has produced has never been remade. ...

They really need to make some kind of Disney Animated Universe in the same vein as the DC Animated Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That Duck Tales reboot has to be a sign they want to make one.
