Actually, he kind of blamed the Toy Story movies of killing his career. I think I'll remember him as Don Rickles because that was his wish.

If the movies helped kill his career, I can't find any evidence of it. The man was still performing up until he died, I think. (In any case, he was performing still a few months ago.)

A true professional.

.....why? I mean honestly, I always felt that the title of Disney Legends should be given to people who helped to shape what Disney is nowadays. It's an opportunity to honour especially the people behind the scenes, though naturally they also honoured a number of special performances. But they did their best work when Star Wars had nothing to do with Disney.

I really HATE that notion.

But didn't Mark do some side projects for Disney as well? Just adding Star Wars to their label gets him some bigger work history.

Mark Hamill has, I think, been in a couple of Disney's TV cartoons.

But that implies that the people in charge remember they exist.

It seems incredibly unlikely they would simply forget big named stars like that,

I meant the cartoons.

Mark Hamill, after all, has been doing voice acting for about two decades now. He was definitely in one of Disney's TV cartoons, but I'm not counting on the people in charge to remember those.

i highly doubt it either way

Yeah, if Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are now legends by virtue of how much money they've made for Disney, then Hannah Montana should be next! lol

Ok that was a joke, couldnt resist.

Serious Aegis: I do think its nice that they included them, but it does diminish the magic of the Disney Legends that genuinely worked on the Disney Animated Canon. Also if they are legends then John Boyega and Daisy Ridley should also be legends since they are the faces of Disney's Star Wars.

that joke really doesn't work because Hannah Montana was an original property of theirs to begin with

I know they recently named Stan Lee a Disney Legend as well (why not George Lucas, I wonder?).

It's fine, really. As with all such awards, who they give it to is up to the folks who are handing it out. As with most of you, I always thought Disney Legend status was handed out to people who had a hand in shaping Disney, not folks who shaped properties that Disney eventually acquired. Still, I don't really have a problem with it.

George Lucas has a shitty reputation, basically, so it probably wouldn't do them any good.

If they did, however, the only Disney-related thing they could honor him for is convincing the company not to fire Walter Murch off of Return To Oz (one of the few unambiguously good things he ever did, in my opinion).

[up] I'd think, as the creator of Star Wars, he'd have at least as much of a claim to "Disney Legend" status as Hamill and Fisher.

And yes, I know Mark Hamill has done voice work for a variety of Disney cartoons, but so have, say, Jim Cummings, Tress Mac Neille, and Rob Paulsen (and they've all likely done more voice work for Disney than Hamill has), and they aren't Disney Legends.

[up][up][up]+[up][up] George Lucas got one in 2013. Also, Jim Henson (the maker of The Muppets) got one in 2011.

no worries

George Lucas has a shitty reputation, basically, so it probably wouldn't do them any good.
I mean, he's still the guy who brought the world two of the most popular movie franchises of all time, one of the most acclaimed American drama films ever, one of the most expensive short films of all time and notably a huge boon for the Disney Theme Parks at the time (as well as Michael Jackson), and a landmark visual effects studio that basically changed the game for the entire industry oh and also the Howard the Duck movie.

But he's also the man who brought us the Star Wars prequels, Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull... oh yes, and Strange Magic.

That was all recent, and that's why it taints our image of him these days.
