The only problem with that is you can't really see what the print is. I'm neutral right now...I have to admit, the current pic/caption is pretty good to me.
Hmm, I didn't think about that aspect. Is the print part important, though? It is definitely clear that he is wearing silly underpants, which is emphasized further by the more properly dressed soldiers on his side.

I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.I sure as hell hope the soldiers in that picture didn't get chewed out for being out of uniform...
Maybe crop it to just him and the guy to his immediate right so he's more prominent in the picture? I do like it and hope we can use it somehow, someone actually in the underwear is a better pic that just of the underwear themselves.
Also, that caption. One of the immortal tales of hijinks in my family is the time my grandma bought my grandpa a pair of those...

If we do go with that pic, that's what I was thinking would be done.
Do we have a trope for out-of-uniform hijinks?

@DRCEQ: It depends on the situation, I'm sure. For instance, if they were under attack, I'm pretty sure that's perfectly acceptable, no?
Yes, one guy that reacted to a surprise attack in his skivvies actually got said boxers put on display as a example of bravery for going in without gear when he had too.
The cropped suggested image could work. I also prefer it to the current, because I think an image of somebody actually wearing the underwear drives the point home more.
I would vote too for a cropped version of the suggestion. The trope is more about people wearing goofy underwears than the underwear itself, I guess.
No resizing needed.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.I prefer seeing the underwear actually on someone rather than on its own, so I vote yes.
I like the soldier. The cropped version.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.11+1
Check out my fanfiction! That's enough overall consensus. The new pic's up and tagged. This one's begging for a caption.
"Never judge a man by his underwear."
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it."Honestly, that's just undie-served exposure."
"Shooting terrorist in his pants"
For extra funsies we could add "How they got in his pants, we'll never know."

Another idea. If you Americans are feeling patriotic: "This We'll Defend... Even when caught with our pants down"

"Too bad this isn't the Boxer Rebellion."
Just wanted to say: Best caption contest ever; I am loving all the suggestions so far. XD

I lean towards 17 and 20. They both make me laugh. XD

Moon◊I got to go with #20 as well...
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.The picture from 11, with the caption from 20.
The current one does its job.
In the real life section, though, I found this image.◊ It made me do a Spit Take; the current is good, but this one is great.
