Young Avengers

Well given that they are the reincarnation of her twins sons from "House Of M" I would assume their mutants.

...Except that Young Avengers happened before House of M, so that theory might not exactly be valid.

Really? In publication maybe- but it clearly happens after both "Avengers Disassembled" and "House Of M" chronologically.

...I know it was explicitly stated somewhere that when Scarlet Witch re-wrote reality back to it's original form minus the overwhelming majority of mutants she also wrote her two sons from that reality back into the world- hence Billy and Tommy.

What's the difference between the two sons she had in House of M and the two sons she had in the 616 reality?

There isn't one (I think).

Because part of the reason (along with Pietro's urging) that she even created the House Of M reality was to bring them back, right?

Basically. The whole reason she went Ax-Crazy (before it was retconned into possession) and killed her teammates was because she remembered that she used to have kids.

Well, Billy is in a confusing position because he uses magic, but Tommy's abilities seem like a regular mutant power.

The humour is juvenile, but that Instagram page is gold. I'm convinced the writer isn't above writing the time skip in just to show that off.

Of course the humour's juvenile. They're kids. Billy, Teddy and Kate are 18, Loki's . . . young, and Noh-Varr's weird. But yes, it's entirely possible the timeskip was thrown in just for the sake of that page. I would be totally OK with that, because that page was hilarious.

I also want to say that Young Avengers has the best credits pages in comics.

Doing It for the Art seems to be a theme of this creative team. I like it. I haven't been into superhero comics before but this series is a good gateway drug.

Another thing I like this week is how David introduces himself to the others. That's one hell of a first impression. A bit creepy, but effective.

I'm just thrilled David's in it at all. Like most of the 2nd generation New Mutants, he got thoroughly shafted during the Decimation and despite multiple attempts to keep him relevant in the X-titles, he never really bounced back.

It's good to see him in a comic where he doesn't have to carry the stigma, "like an X-Man, only depowered, so not REALLY an X-Man". I felt the same way when Wind Dancer was picked up over in New Warriors, only to be disappointed when she wound up not really being Sofia at all, personalitywise.

My knowledge about X-Men and Marvel verse in general is nearly non-existent but David seems to be a good addition to the team. They already have nuke, heavy hitters and skilled marks(wo)men. They need a tactician that isn't frigging Loki. Kate looks capable to keep them focus on business, but David is the one who can do battle support over the phone.

It really made me chuckle that David seemed to be the only one in 7 issues to instantly pick up on the fact that Loki isn't what he seems. I think that's a good contrast with the other kids. The others aren't dumbed down to make David look smarter, but he notices the little things people overlook.

Surge and Rockslide! Cool! Hopefully it's not just a cameo, though I doubt all these characters will join the team.

At least a few of them are already in other books (Power Man II is there and he's confirmed to be a part of the Mighty Avengers) so yeah. I wouldn't take this as an indication that people on the cover are actually joining the team.

I want that so bad. Julie and Karolina! Rockslide hitting on Miss America! Spider-Girl! Troll! Troll! I love Troll. Adding Troll to something will always make it better, and fill me with glee.

Man. I am now ridiculously excited for those issues. They will be amazing.

Edit: Kieron Gillen talks about Afterparty with CBR. It's going to have art from a bunch of different people. Kate Brown's going to come back. There's also going to be Becky Cloonan, Ming Doyle, Christian Ward, Joe Quinones, Emma Vieceli, and apparently others. They're people who Gillen and Mc Kelvie are friends with, and they wanted to get them in on the issues. Mc Kelvie will also do the first few and last few pages for each issue. Gillen called up everyone writing teen characters to get their advice, as well.

This thing looks like it's going to be epic.

So, wait, is it ending? Gillen said he "planned 15 issues" but I can't tell if he's talking about the whole book or just the first year.

There seems to be some discussion of that. I assume he'll clarify fairly soon.

Wow, it's a gorgeous picture and the thing they're planning looks epic. All those artists under two issues. The company must like the title very much to greenlight it.

Of course it's ending. Young Avengers doesn't get to have an ongoing ongoing. That'd be too much awesome for one fanbase to deal with. They have to pace it, so the fans don't build up a tolerance. Like substance abuse.

Gillen says issue #15 is the end of the "season", but doesn't say that it's actually the end of the series.

He also says he's been informed who survives Avengers Arena, and that he's "planning for it".
