Extinction mode has objectives, for one. It works more like a game of Left 4 Dead than regular Zombies in that you and your team are constantly moving forward while aliens chase you in waves, and every so often you run into an objective that has to be overcome in some way.

What do you think made them drop zombies for aliens I wonder?

"Zombie modes are overdone enough that even Activision can see the need for something new", would be my reaction.

Zombies have always been Treyarch's thing, IW isn't going to touch them. I actually like Extinction a little bit more, largely because you can beat it, and because strong teamwork is more evident. It's my favorite thing to come from Ghosts, which... isn't saying much.

Zombies hasn't been dropped. IW just wants it's own Zombies-like thing to put into it's games.

Yeah but aliens (well 'Cryptids') seems like such as uninspired replacement for the walking dead. Especially after Colonial Marines has ruined Aliens cool video game bad guys FOREVER.

So, they're going on about the next map pack now. One in a Mayan temple where you can trigger a volcano (...how?), one on a giant excavator that you get a Chopper Gunner on, one on a ship that's crashed into a bridge where you can control an A-10 and a remake of MW 3's Dome, now an archeological dig site, where you can call in three aliens from Extinction mode (and find the acid-shooting gun).

Oh, and remember Michael Myers being in the last DLC? They're teasing Predator.

They may be running out ideas.

-gently bumps the thread-

Hello? Anyone here? -massive spoilers for Ghosts follow, for the three people who take the story seriously-

So um, I bought this game recently. I'm not usually a Co D fan and I haven't done more than dabble in the multiplayer, but the singleplayer is pretty cool in a dumb action movie kinda way. I actually wanted to mention something about the story.

I think it was Yahtzee (or maybe Totalbiscuit - sorry, all British people sound the same to me :P) who brought up the point that the Americans in this game don't have the moral high ground, since they are the ones who built the Odin, which is pretty much a weapon of mass destruction. This may actually be a point of moral dissonance between America and other countries, (or maybe just different depending on your view on WM Ds) but I never thought America was being hypocritical in this game. Yeah, they built a giant death laser (or death missile launcher? Death earthquake maker?) IN SPACE, but they never actually used it the way the Federation did once they hijacked it, or at all as far as I know. My impression was that the Federation had the USA outmatched in terms of manpower since they controlled all of South and Central America, and the threat of the Odin was the only thing keeping them from launching a full-scale invasion of the United States. So when they hijack the thing and wreck up the place, America has lost their only trump card AND their country is in ruins to boot.

Where the moral dissonance might come in is how justified you think it is just to possess WM Ds whether or not you actually use them, and HOW you use them. Personally, I see nothing wrong with possessing them so long as they're used responsibly, (which is admittedly asking a lot of world governments, I'll grant you) while others would say simply owning such a weapon puts you in the wrong. Anyway, that's just what I took away from it. I'm probably putting way more thought into the plot that the writers did.

I think it would have been interesting, though, if they'd done more to justify why the Federation has such a hate-on for the USA. Maybe the game could've been seeded with allusions to a Noodle Incident that took place before Odin was hijacked, like a horrible war crime committed by the USA against the Federation.

-spoilers end here-

Also, does anyone know if there are some multiplayer maps IN SPACE?! As ridiculous as the space missions are, I found them to be quite fun. It would've been cool if there'd been a couple of space maps, either inside a station or outside floating around. Even just one or two would be cool. I picked up a discounted copy of the Super Deluxe You Really Shouldn't Buy This At Full Price Edition, which came with the season pass, (and a 1080p camera, for some reason. A Ghosts mask would've been way cooler, those look badass) but I couldn't find any. The single player campaign in these games pretty much only exists to give context to the multiplayer portion, so it's disappointing they didn't throw in at least one gimmick stage.

but you could argue that from the feds point of view that they were in the right for the highjacking of Odin -if not the firing of it-, as the USA could of at any time decided if they had Odin that they should use it.

It's not the first time a country decided a nation having WM Ds warranted a preemptive strike

All the COD prestige editions had sort some 'tactcool' gizmos included that was in the game. MW 2 had night vision goggles and black ops I&II had a RC car and helicopter.

The camera is meant to be represent the one your faithful attack dog Reilly. Although since you have to provide your own k9 assassin it's kind of a let down sad

I haven't heard any thing about a space map saddly, but maybe you can check out Shattered Horizon if it's still going.

[up]Exactly, that's what I mean with calling it moral dissonance. To some, just possessing WM Ds is bad, while others consider it OK so long as they are used responsibly for self-defense/deterrence. It's an interesting discussion either way. Also, the Federation were kind of dicks by just attacking a bunch of US cities for no reason other than "fuck you, America!"

Speaking of Riley, it's disappointing how underutilized he is considering what a big deal they made about it in marketing. Ghosts really should've included a Dog Mode instead of the aliens thing. Or included the dog as an unlockable multiplayer character. I guarantee Ghosts' metacritic rating would be at least 20 points higher if there was a dog-only multiplayer mode. And I would take including a real Navy Seals dog in the collectors edition over the camera any day.tongue

[up]That game looks really awesome. Not having a space map in Ghosts was really a missed opportunity, IMO. Logic be damned, it's SPACE!

Yeah the whole idea of the nations of south america (yes All of Them) ganging up to together just so they could wipe out American is pretty laughable really. What did we do? Dis soccer again?

[up]Heh, it's not like multiplayer does't make any sense at all really when you think about ittongue Perhaps everyone in multiplayer is stuck in endless cycle of murder death and rebirth that they can never escape or comprehend?

Having the underwater (fish AI hoy!) and space levels feature prominently in the marketing and not having them in the multiplayer is a big disappointment, maybe they are saving it for DLC? :/

Well if they make a Ghost 2 hopefully they will listen to their fans and include more dog related content.

I think there is a clearly demand for more dogs in games especially after downgrading of Watch_Dogs original promised dog game play. I think marketing research says that 42% of all call of duty players either own, play with or are dogs after all.

Shattered Horizon is pretty much a dead game today, unfortunately. Absolutely nobody's on anymore and I think even the servers went down. And since the game is multiplayer-only, that means there is zero reasons to purchase it anymore.

looks like the new metal gear is including some much needed a dog is well.

What an adorable little puppy[waii]

So has anyone heard if a sequel coming out or not? I mean it wasn't the best call of duty game but i will be disappointed if they just abandon the franchise. Especially after the blatant Clift hanger.

playing brainwashed a member of the Federation army would it make it interesting perspective to the game

Same eye as Big Boss, too. Also I believe he's a wolfdog, which is an interesting link to Solid Snake in MGS 1, who trained wolfdogs in Alaska before the events of that game.

Gameplay wise, DD will actually do things as well, unlike the dog in Ghosts which was entirely scripted and then just disappears from the story later on. I was expecting the dog to suddenly show up and rip out the throat of the bad guy right at the end when he's dragging away the player. Would've been an awesome ending.
