A multi-panel image with panels the same width is slightly better than a multi-panel image with an inconsistent layout :P At least it's designed to be multi-frame in the first place, and we're not forcing a multi-frame structure on something that doesn't have one already, like movie frames.
It doesn't really seem unfriendly to me, exactly, though. Oblivious. But accidental. And that would make it a subversion anyway. The name is not supposed to be sarcastic, Herbivores Are Friendly goes with Predators Are Mean.

I don't think we should have a subversion as the page image; it encourages abuse. The image's primary purpose is to explain the trope, not to be funny,

The first panel illustrates the trope very well. The second panel adds funnies, and hey, it didn't attack them with its teeth and it still has a friendly smile. I'm good with either one or two panels. Another option would be to follow the trend on Lampshaded Double Entendre or some MLP character pages and put the second panel in a caption note.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

I think we should only have the first panel. Don't get me wrong, that's a pretty funny comic strip, but subversions don't make good page images.

I was thinking, perhaps, the first and last panels of this comic
, or just the first, perhaps, could make a good image for this trope.
The first panel alone is a good example of the assumption. The last panel alongside it is a funny punchline that says "that's not right"
