Timey-Wimey Ball uses a low quality image that looks like it was made in ms Paint. I recommend the image found here https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=578159345538414&set=a.456449604376056.98921.367116489976035&type=1&theater It illustrates the trope in a much more accurate way.

Logically, I guess it does get to the point. However, it would have to be cropped which might make it less suitable or might not. It would also have to be shrunk and that texture is not going to shrink well. We might be able to get a higher resolution file to shrink from the artist (link) when asking permission. However, I don't see this image as loads better. Though admittedly, I'm partial to the current for very obscure fan myopic reasons (this is obviously not a good reason to keep it, I know).

Does the current have a source?

Either way, I think the suggestion is not an improvement. The current is much more on the ball.

Well time isn't a literal ball, and I think the suggestion is much more elegant in design.

Dependent on the author allowing it, it has my support.

For reference it would look something like this:

"Nullius addictus iurare in verba magistri, quo me cumque rapit tempestas, deferor hospes."

I don't think the current is terrible, but I do like the suggestion better.

The suggestion is pretty, but I prefer the simplicity of the yarn pic.

[up]She's providing the link to help give us context for the discussion, not to get us to move it over there. Specifically this is at least the third such image pickin' thread launched for the trope, of which the current image is a result.

What about removing the timeline on top? And just having "What time * actually* is" as the description

Very elegant, but takes longer to parse than the current. I do like it, though. Perhaps with the arrangement described in [up].

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

The trope is "How Time Travel works is inconsistent within a single series." A graph about cause and effect not being in the expected order does not illustrate that. It's entirely possible to write effect preceding cause in an internally consistent way.

Also, its...fuzzy. Makes the text hard to read. I'd vote against it on image quality alone.

The ball of yarn is entirely metaphorical, but at least its a good metaphor.

+1 for the current...the suggestion is nice, but the yarn makes for a simpler visual representation.

+1 for current. I find the proposed replacement lower in quality and less clear.

  • 1 for the suggestion, or at least the bottom part with the ball.

Should we crowner this?

The suggested picture may be visually elegant and circular but it is completely irrelevant to the trope about the inconsistent explanation and application of the rules of time travel within a fictional series.

Therefore I have to vote it down. [tdown]

[up][up] Overall, the consensus is to keep the current...I'm not seeing enough balance between the two to make a crowner necessary.
