Since we've gotten told to stop talking generally about religion twice in the Homosexuality and Religion thread and were told that, if we want to talk generally about religion, we need to make a new thread, I have made a new thread.
Full disclosure: I am an agnostic atheist and anti-theist, but I'm very interested in theology and religion.
Mod Edit: All right, there are a couple of ground rules here:
- This is not a thread for mindless bashing of religion or of atheism/agnosticism etc. All view points are welcome here. Let's have a civil debate.
- Religion is a volatile subject. Please don't post here if you can't manage a civil discussion with viewpoints you disagree with. There will be no tolerance for people who can't keep the tone light hearted.
- There is no one true answer for this thread. Don't try to force out opposing voices.

Have faith.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleTrust your instincts and always question yourself and your path.
The people I see most confident in their faith are people who aren't afraid to question it and continue to educate themselves to make sure they are making sense and working for good, not evil.
"Psssh. Even if you could catch a miracle on a picture any person would probably delete it to make space for more porn." - AszurUse the force. Trust your instincts. And for fuck's sake Don't miss that exhaust port or else we're fucked.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes
Good answer.
Si Vis Pacem, Para Perkele@Corvidae: Unfortunately, by general agreement, we have very little other choice, even if you happen to be secular. There appears to be no way of knowing where your life choices will lead other than by living them and finding out.
Listen to these words:
Now break it down hard!

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Believe me, back when I had faith I was a lot less fun.
Well that sounds really cheery and hopeful.
Still a great "screw depression" song even after seven years. Why is everyone so obsessed with mountain climbing anyway?
Still a great "screw depression" song even after seven years.Because a mountain is there.
Keep Rolling OnDatuk Jamal Md Yunos, the leader of the Red Shirt rally claims that Islam requires him to prioritise his race before his nationality. Yeah, either this guy is really that stupid or he is willingly ignoring the tenets of his own religion as he sees fit.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotWeren't those practically the same thing back when the Koran was written?
I don't think race was even an issue back then. It probably was more about tribal allegiances.
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen. Some NASCAR fans really take it too far
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesCan't help but feel a bit annoyed at this. Claiming that your holy book of choice says something that it doesn't might be silly, but it's not like he has some sort of obligation to believe in all of it. No True Scotsman and all that.
Still a great "screw depression" song even after seven years. The Qur'an is not the shaky compendium that is The Bible, it's meant to be the literal Word of God; you have to believe in all of it. Except when bits contradict each other, then the rule is that the most recent bit prevails over and "clarifies" past ones.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I can't help but wonder how Christianity would have evolved if it had a rule like that when everything got more organized.
In the future, there will be a religion based on online fanfics.
It will be a terrible, dark age for humanity.

Inter arma enim silent legesi'm hoping more for a religion based on Monty Oum
Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic SocialistSays who? If you don't already believe that you have to believe in all of it, why would you have to? What's to stop you from going "Most of it's true, but not this part that says it's all true."
Sure, that might come off as cherry-picking, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's wrong.
Still a great "screw depression" song even after seven years. In general, the Abrahamic faiths get very intense about scriptural inerrancy. I'm not entirely sure of why, but I've heard that it's actually a fairly recent phenomenon. In ancient times, people were apparently less literal about it. I don't have a source for this.
This is a signature.
How do you tell which ones lead where though?
