Since we've gotten told to stop talking generally about religion twice in the Homosexuality and Religion thread and were told that, if we want to talk generally about religion, we need to make a new thread, I have made a new thread.
Full disclosure: I am an agnostic atheist and anti-theist, but I'm very interested in theology and religion.
Mod Edit: All right, there are a couple of ground rules here:
- This is not a thread for mindless bashing of religion or of atheism/agnosticism etc. All view points are welcome here. Let's have a civil debate.
- Religion is a volatile subject. Please don't post here if you can't manage a civil discussion with viewpoints you disagree with. There will be no tolerance for people who can't keep the tone light hearted.
- There is no one true answer for this thread. Don't try to force out opposing voices.

Inter arma enim silent leges"Ever since I was a kid, I always thought of the Holy Trinity as three fingers in a hand. Appearance-wise seperate, but in reality all part of the same body part. Controlled by one brain."
Thing is, a finger shouldnt be sacrifing itself to his other finger, this is just....weird.
In fact I repeat my question Again: where is for you the most weird thing you find out in your religion, you know the kind of thing that can be only understand in context, In my case it will be the angels in ezekiel....they are just...reaaaaaally weird.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"You're forgetting the finger's resurrection!

Ok, admittedly in mathematics when one infinity is bigger than another it is usually infinitely bigger. (integers vs real numbers, for example, because there's an infinite number of decimals between each integer.)
So the trinity thing would work if it was multiplicative rather than additive, I think.
So...god give the finger to the world in order to save them....god that was so awfull
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Yeah, the finger grew back! Which makes God...a lizard?

Trump delenda estA lizard? Pfff, don't insult the awesomeness of God with the name of a reptile.

No points for guessing which finger grew back

Inter arma enim silent leges<sigh> I'm going to refrain from making a fuss about all this blasphemy that I'm seeing here, since I'm fairly sure you already know what you're saying is blasphemous and may in fact be doing it on purpose. Just know that I'm of the camp that doesn't condone blasphemy even in a jesting manner; insulting God is still insulting God, regardless of actual intention.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I understand and I'll apologize from my end. It's just that there's often a stereotype that, for example, Catholics are deadly serious and don't want to joke about things related to religion and specifically their own side, and I'm kinda the opposite of that (and I went through all the motions, so I know my stuff). One can be a firm believer but still get to joke a bit. The problem, to me, is folks who joke about things without having researched things properly or having entered in contact with folks of [insert religion here].
Which is why Family Guy sucks.
Got there before you.

There are competing priorities. Nothing should be above mockery, but mockery has an implicit responsibility to be at least somewhat informed. I don't believe in blasphemy at all, though; religions should not get preferential treatment when it comes to what speech is permitted.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Most Christians dont consider joking about God to be blasphemy.
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."Both Russia and Germany put you in prison for blasphemy? Canada fines you? What??
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."I'm pretty sure that Canadian law at least is long outdated and hasn't been used in years (last case was 1936). Any charges would easily be defeated as Charter of Rights and Freedoms violations.
Reading more into it, the Canadian blasphemy law has effectively evolved into a hate speech law, it is perfectly legal to criticize religion in good faith for or any other reason if you aren't harassing or threatening people.

On the subject, Iceland just decriminalized blasphemy. http://m.bbc.com/news/world-europe-33378778

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.blasphemy is little disrespectful towards religions if it's done intentionally,
New theme music also a boxI think God can take a little jesting and japing.
This. It won't be us mere mortals who will cause damage to God.
Now, when it comes to mocking religious, agnostic or atheist people (and I do emphasize people, regardless of what they believe or not believe in), the matter is less clear-cut across the world...

I think, the thing is, you really should not insult the omnipotent creator.
He can take a joke, sure, but don't outright insult him.
God seems to be rather protective of his name.

"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"As with most things, it depends on the joke and its context, as well as the person who says it. George Carlin can make a joke about God or religiously-related stuff (such as the confession) work, for example (him having been Raised Catholic and all).
(I can remove the link, if anyone feels uncomfortable)

Not to be needlessly annoying or anything, but... why does being (allegedly) omnipotent make an entity less deserving of criticism?
Still a great "screw depression" song even after seven years.Thing is,people interpret through scripture that he takes offence..

So, according to Islam, Christians are:
The Lost, the Endarkened, Those-In-The-Dark.
Jesus, all of those sounds like some form of Eldritch Abomination.
