I saw that this show did not have its own thread, so I started it.

I had no clue that it lasted for ten years. This was one of my favorite shows growing up, and it isn't even a 90s cartoon.

[up]I liked it, overall - it was sophisticated quit enough for me, but it wasn't one of KC's best, looking back at it - I can see why people are more fond of Rugrats (in its early years) and Ahh!Real Monsters, to name proper examples of their greatness...

Even if I had different face, I AM STILL DISGRACED.

Me, I thought it was a great show that appealed to young girls and also had good sub plots involving Carl and Hoodsey for the male audience.

I remember two episodes, one dealing with head lice and one of the main characters ended up trying to name everyone with lice for some reason, and one where Ginger got in trouble by her mom for using makeup for some reason.

It was a decent enough show, I was generally more impressed with how thoroughly they subverted Limited Wardrobe. There simply is no "classic" outfit they were known for.

[up][up]Her mom also wouldn't allow her to shave her hairy Irish legs. She really had trouble with the idea of her daughter doing "womanly" things.

I remember a baby bull that a guy who liked Ginger ended up spitefully naming after Ginger's crush, the little seal girl who can't even cry, and at camp Capreese they don't say mooses, they say meese.

[up]Apparently she thought she might gain an OCD to shaving her legs...Sometimes it seemed like she had a Hank Hill-esque radar to take offense to anything the plot called for her daughter to do.

I remember the one with Karl and Hoodsie blackmailing Blake with his childhood toy (and then Karl getting Hoist by His Own Petard) and the ghost of Karl's elderly friend revealing a trick Ginger's rival played on her, leading to an amusing mass Humiliation Conga in the middle of a play.

There was also the tragic case of most of the amusing teacher characters being written out due to their actor's passing away.

My memory is vague but wasn't Courtney basically a duplicate of Rarity, voice actress and all?

[up][up]

OMG I remember Carl and Hoodsey's weird schemes. I also remember when they lied to get a lie detector and didn't get it.

I agree..Courtney and Rarity are alike, and no, they don't share the same voice actress (or do they?). Plus, they are both vain and are jerks with hearts of gold.

I just watched the series finale on Youtube. Its very heartwarming. I had no idea it was a long runner.

I also remember an episode when Ginger wasn't allowed to wear makeup and got grounded for doing so.

[up]"watchcartoononline" is a really sketchy site, so no thanks.

I knew this show existed when it was around, but I never actually watched it. That is my experience with this show.

[up][up]It was girly, yes - but at least I, a male could not only tolerate it, but actually enjoy it - one of the few good Nicktoons of its generation out there that felt like it did reach out to more than just its female targeted audience, overall, IMHO.

@ 13 & 14 Dudes, my little brother is an open fan to those. Both of us don't mind watching shows that appeal to separate genders.

@Ms CC 93 - Don't worry. As long as I'm breathing, I'll always be seeking out good shows with female leads - because we Westerners need MORE, not less... Besides, I was still in my teens when I caught this, and I loved nearly every bit of it for how sophisticated it was alone.

[up] I totally agree. I love shows that do have female or male leads, but balance everything porportionately when it comes to gender roles. (Teen Titans, for example)

I'm re watching the series and I'm seeing people complain about how they hate Dodie. I agree with the complaints, because Dodie is a huge bitch.

Dodie was a difficult but understandable character. She's a pitiable social climber who genuinely values her friends despite their lowly social status, wanting something better for herself and them. It was an attempt by the writers to make a sympathetic wannabe, which did not connect with some audiences.

You'll note that Dodie is often the one to encourage Ginger to take the opportunities handed to her by the popular kids. She's far from a bad person, she's simply has a goal of questionable worth.

There's a topic for this?

I enjoyed this back in the day. To be sure, it was a show for teens, but it was entertaining and decently written enough that I could sit through it and not want to violently tear off my skin.

[up][up] I understand your opinion, I can see why Dodie wants to be popular, but the lengths she goes to achieve that goal makes me (and a lot of fans) dislike her. She also takes her great friends for granted.

Despite my dislike for Dodie, I do think she has a lot of legitimate points though, like you said. Also, I think Dodie's mom is kind of a bad influence. Even Dodie herself admitted that she didn't like the idea of her mom being around kids.

I remember wanting to be popular just like in middle school. However, I didn't have good friends like Ginger and Macie. It was damn near impossible for me to make and keep friends because of how mean teenagers can be when it came to ostracizing people and calling them weird. I would KILL to have friends like Ginger and Macie.

[up]Dodie's mom was a bitch, plain and simple. It seemed like everyone else knew it to, they just put up with it because she's their mom/wife or the mom of their friend and what are you supposed to do in that situation?

I only caught an episode or two of this, including the one about shaving her legs. It's an alright show. I might have to find it online and give it a full try.
