Oh God YES!!!!

Also, whenever I hear amnesia in fiction, I keep thinking anterograde amnesia, rather than retrograde. Is that also a symptom? tongue

Oh, yes. As is a tendency to shake a fist at any given medium and hiss, "That's not how schizophrenia/ paranoid delusions/ autism/ epilepsy/ dyslexia/ pick one works!" Bonus points when the therapies (if shown) have you shaking your head and eye-rolling. Spluttering at electroshock treatment may also happen.

A curse related to psychology is when people hear you have even the slightest knowledge of psychology they go like "OH MY GOSH YOU LIKE TOTALLY ANALYZED ME AND KNOW ALL OF MY SECRETS RIGHT"

Desire to strangle those is optional

Oh God, yes to that too.

Me: So I used to major in psychology. ..

Friend: oh sweet! Figure out what I'm thinking now.

Me: ...First of all, I'm a psych major dropout (major:English). Secondly, you don't do that shit in psychology, you want to see a magician or something.

Friend: isn't being psychic related to psychology?

Me: Yes, like how lightning and lightning bug is related.

Friend: Come on, just try man.

Me: Okay fine. You are thinking "Hmm, my friend is looking pissed and is about to hit me in the head with a book."

Friend: That's not what I-

A couple of my friends actually think me majoring (which I didn't) in psych made me a half-psychic.

Well, it's easy to be psychic to you if you are completely open about your thoughts and emotions, and have a consistent pattern of lifestyle and beliefs. XP

Well, I got done with my psychological appointment.

Some good things some bad things. I got a lot of things off my chest. Doc said I have a verbal / language IQ of around 120. I do not know what that really means, but I suppose it is something I can tout now.

[up]Please don't: IQ-braggers are painful. Particularly at parties. -_-

[up] Have I mentioned yet my IQ just on language and verbosity is 120? Because it is. It is. It is. My language and verbal IQ 120. A powerful number. 120 is 40 times 3.

40 is four tens.

Thus my intellect is thrice terrible.

Well, all joking aside, I have a question; mostly on the subject of PETA's Ingrid Newkirk. I read an article with several confirmed quotes by her saying things like she "went early to her job so as to euthanize more animals." That she did not remember how many she euthanized, just that its a large number.

She commonly says a dog is a pig is a boy, and that rings to me of something.

And she made a gruesome will for when she dies, that is either attention seeking at its strangest or a display of earnestly held ideal.

What do you guys here make of Newkirk?

Even media junkies with questionable sense can do things. Blinkers often mean things can get done by them, in fact. Sometimes, useful alongside the bonkers.

I'll point you at Jeremy Bentham. Utterly nutty for his time; totally worthwhile having. And, she only wishes she were as influential as he.

Yeah, she's part of a good cause but holy shit this woman is a bonafide nihilist - people it seems are a mixture of good traits and just as many bad ones.

I admit I am curious about the sleeping sickness and its rumoured effect on those who wake up. What could cause such strange effects? Some sort of frontal lobe attacking bacterium?

Can someone please explain to me why oh why did I agree to do a Doctorate?

Dr. Polarstern does sound sexy...but I think I am going to die from exhaustion.

This will be an experience.

Heh, that can be fun, as long as you remember not to bore them with a lecture. What's the topic?

I get to chose so I was thinking how to treat the mental health of a patient with Expressive Aphasia vs. Dysarthria since they just got done learning about prescriptive limits. I also want to hammer in the value of working with a medical team before you start messing with clients.

[up]Oh, yeah. It's so easy to jump to obscure neurological conditions when "check their hearing/ sight/ blood work/ immune response to allergens/ whatever" might be more fruitful. -_-

You can't go wrong with a good dose of "remember Occam". wink

A case study might be interesting. Make it a challenge: "How would you go about diagnosing what this client has?" or somesuch, then describe what actually happens in a real clinical setting.

Think about the possibilities of having a Doctorate. You can wear latex gloves, speak with zhe german aksent and also go around with white lab coats.

And if someone has a heart attack in the middle of the bank line and everyone stares at you you just say "HEY FUCK Y'ALL I AM A DOCTOR IN PSYCHOLOGY. WHEN SOMEONE IS DYING BECAUSE OF OEDIPUS COMPLEX, CALL ME" and then you storm out glamorous as fuck.

This is why I would be a horrible professor. I would give a speech on something like. Sex. Or porn. Something to weird out people. What good is having power if you do not use it to creep the fuck out of the newbies?

You would however be an awesome motivational speaker. I nominate you for a self help book. It would be brilliant.
