Sockpuppet tool problem

There seems to be an issue with several sockpuppet tools on this site, namely:

  1. Tropers are being prevented from changing their votes in crowners with a reason "Name and IP address do not match. One vote per IP address." It happens only on certain crowners and crowner options.
  2. And the estimater shows numerous tropers I have never overlapped with (And in my case includes lots of non-American tropers and 3 moderators)

Is this an interaction between the tools and the incident yesterday?

eta: Analyzed the list a bit more closely. Apparently, from the tropers who gave their location, all are outside of the US. Some more updating also happening.

Actually, it's not saying anything when I try to fix my votes. It simply completely fails to respond. There's another crowner I'm looking at that has me logged as voting one way or the other for every option (more than a dozen things) despite me only having voted for one. It's not a serious crowner but it's pretty annoying.

Also, the estimator that Septimus Heap linked to has me sharing addresses with hundreds of people, including some I've never met and at least one mod.

I recognize about 15 40 tropers in that estimator list. Either a lot of them actually live close to me wild mass guess, or this isn't working as intended.

Then again, I expect IP addresses to not be quite reliable as they shift around.

That list looked to me like a list of everyone whom I've seen forum posts from.

OK, seems like the crowner thingo is fixed now.

Not for me it isn't. Of course, I'm also apparently incapable of editing my own posts, editing crowner options, checking the log for crowners and all sorts of things even after clearing my cache.

Yeah, now voting on one of the crowner options isn't working again - it's counting the ratio wrong and getting my vote there wrong. Option editing and voting on the others is OK, though.

Yeah, I think there's definitely something wrong with the sockpuppet tool. For me, it lists almost 400 tropers from all over the world (a large number of them forum regulars) and the list includes six mods and Fast Eddie himself. [lol]

I swear I checked this recently and it was only me and my actual sock, not this massive list! XD (Sep is on there but not you, Nocturna.) I do recognise a bunch of them as European (certainly a higher proportion than usual), but chances are that most of them are not; around here, I often see someone's location as something to make a mental note of only if it's outside the US, no offense to you Americans. :P

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

All the accounts on my list that have given a location (true or not) are outside of the US. Like you, Tel, you once said "England" in your profile.

My voting ability is back and I can edit posts again. Crowner still don't show up correctly, but hey, progress.

There are a lot of people on my list that I know aren't outside the US. Fast Eddie and at least three mods (blackcat, Daltar and Willbyr) are on the list, after all.

I am having problems with crowners telling me I already voted on them.

I only tried one crowner (image pickin' for Angel Unaware). I can vote but not change my vote. "Name and IP address do not match. One vote per IP address."

  • checks sockpuppet estimator*

Well I don't know if it's normal to be listed for 8 IP addresses, but I'm sure that Fast Eddie and Fighteer are not my sockpuppets.tongue

248 IPs show up for me.

Also, they all fit for places I've been in so it's probably the "Overlapping tropers section" which is wrong.

Yep, I'm getting the same thing (I'm apparently secretly a foxy mod tongue), although my one actual sockpuppet note  isn't on the list (although I've never used it to actually post, just lurk).

[up][up][up]I specifically had problems just now with the same crowner. Other crowners seem fine, though, so far.

Looking up the IP locations, three are from my ISP at least close to where I live, one from another Swedish ISP which has the wrong location, and four from New York.

That's odd! I have four of the IP addresses, the first two of which I never used and which have been preventing me from editing pages when I cleared the cookies, logged in and first tried to edit one! The third one is my former IP address, and the last one is my current IP address. Does anyone know why? sad

Never mind. Now I have the first three IP addresses I have never used when I try to edit a page for the first time today, and it says that it's "already checked out by" one of the first three IP addresses I've never used! Hope somebody can fix my login and editing issues.

Well, it's been a few hours and I STILL can't edit any pages at all because the page I'm trying to edit keeps being checked out by 216.99.32.42, 216.99.32.43, and 216.99.32.44. When will these editing issues be fixed? sad

BTW, I've got nearly 1,000 tropers on the estimator.

Curiously, I still can edit pages.

I haven't tried to edit something or vote in a crowner (and am only posting here because I was told the problem might be related), but I'm getting 405 errors almost every time I try to post, edit a post, or send a PM. I've cleared cache, cookies, and history, and I keep relogging, but it's still very inconsistent.

EDIT: I got 405'd trying to edit this post just now.

I am able to post to forum and discussion, and edit pages. My edits show up in history.

I "acquired" a 9th IP since yesterday. Don't know how to look up IP locations but I haven't changed computers or modems, or logged in from a different one in a long time. We don't have dial-up, either.

But I re-voted successfully in the borked Angel Unaware crowner... because my previous votes were deleted? Or suddenly counted as having come from some other IP?

Well, I was finally able to edit Digital Leisure, Inc. somehow, but I couldn't understand why I couldn't edit pages a few times when hours later my editing was finally able to work. If I clear cookies and log in next time, my editing skills may not work again.

Well, that is odd: The first IP addresses I didn't get seem to come from Quincy, NH. wild mass guess

Well most of the I Ps listed for me are at least in reasonable cities, except the ones from Quincy and Medford.

EDIT: Checked, I've never been near Medford.
