Abbott knows how to argue. Great asset for an Opposition Leader, not so great for a Prime Minister.

It seems to me that Labor has abdicated any responsibility it had to being an Opposition to the Greens.

The only thing they talk about is Jobs. Jobs Jobs Jobs Jobs Jobs. Jobs? Jobs! Jobs Jobs.

Labor: Jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs.

Liberal: Carbon tax, carbon tax, carbon tax, carbon tax.

[up][up] Is that because Labor agree with Abbott on a lot of issues?

Yeah. That's why they haven't said much about the death on Manus Island. Because they opened it and set it all up, the Liberals just continued it.

Liberal: Carbon tax, carbon tax, carbon tax, carbon tax.
Unions and envrionmentalists are their other punching bags. But the Liberals have things they want to do in government. All Labor cares about is JobsTM. Specifically, unionised ones.

Yeah. Libs want to start stringing the working man dry and give the top dogs big fat payouts like they're running Calvin Coolidge's joint. But it is something, I give you that.

News to warm your heart if you're someone like Rupert Murdoch, Turnball wants less regulation of media ownership.

"Why do we have a rule that prevents one of the national networks acquiring 100 per cent coverage, why is there a rule that says today that you can't own print, television and radio in the same market? Shouldn't that just be a matter for the ACCC?"

''Labor: Jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs.

Liberal: Carbon tax, carbon tax, carbon tax, carbon tax.''

With the Tasmanian elections heating up I thought one for the Greens might be appropriate.

So, the Libs have basically won Tasmania. I think this is a repeat of what happened in the federal election: people were just disillusioned with Labor faffing around for so long. Hell, I know I was, but I voted Greens. Hard for me to imagine what the Liberals will be like once they're in charge here; I was only four when Labor's seventeen-year run began.

State Liberals are not Federal Liberals. For all his faults (the drink curfew comes into mind) I'd much prefer Barry o'Farrel than Tony Abbott + crew (save a few, probably).

Pity those of us in Queensland. Campbell Newman is as bad or worse than Abbott in may regards and he has a huge majority and no upper house to deal with. He's pissed off more or less the entire Queensland judiciary, has got the entire public health system teetering on a knife edge as the doctors threatening to quite en-masse.

Though smart money is on him not surviving the next election, even if the LNP does get back into power. Polling in his seat has seen some big swings against him (and in the Redcliffe by-election there was a sixteen percent swing against the LNP and while some of that would be dissatisfaction with the previous member a lot of it was directed at the LNP and Newman directly).

I'm just worried that now that the Libs have won Tas that now the deforestation of Tasmania is pretty much going to go ahead with no problem.

I'd much prefer Barry o'Farrel than Tony Abbott

And they're both from NSW, I wonder what would have happened if their positions were reversed?

To be honest, I actually prefer O'Farrell's Libs to NSW Labor, because NSW Labor seem so hopelessly, blithely corrupt and incompetent.

But I don't like O'Farrell much either.

I'd prefer a fresh pile of dodo droppings to Barry O'Farrell as PM myself. The man has already undermined the NSW legal system with his batch of reactionary knee-jerk laws to combat bike motorcycle and alcohol violence.

Liberal Senator accused of making $20 million profit from government infrastructure deal.

ICAC hearing in Sydney heard claims that Senator Sinodinos, a former AWH board member, stood to make $20 million from an infrastructure deal awarded to the company by the state-owned Sydney Water Corporation in January 2012.

Meanwhile, Reinhart is making noise about small govt in NT with rhetoric she seems to have stolen from US conservatives.

"If government gets out of the way, we can build a better future for north Australia."

In this case, Forbes said the same thing in a global context years ago. Australia's right-wing seems to be pretty dominated by US ideology these days.

The classification one make sense. (The Imperial to Metric one not sure since I'm not sure what that's originally for.) The axing of a charity commission... not quite so.

Meanwhile Queensland Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie is planning to appeal the sentence of Daniel Morcombe's murderer, saying it is too lenient and not in line with "community expectations."

Fuck off Bleijie, you odious credit, you little twerp. How someone with your lack of experience became Attorney-General I'll never know. A 32-year old conveyancing lawyer is now the chief lawmaker in my state. It's a disgrace. He's a desperate little populist, hoping that being mean to pedophiles and scary-looking people (bikies) will win votes.

And "community expectations"? Eat a bag of dicks. If Brett Peter Cowan's sentence met "community expectations" we'd be begging for the guillotine to be brought back. Do you know that it was originally supposed to be a HUMANE method of execution? If Cowan was punished in line with "community expectations" he'd be lucky to die before they stuffed his genitals in his mouth.
