I participated in at least one of those threads, and they had different aims.
All I'm asking for is a rename that should expand the trope itself.
I still say just making a Cuckold Fetish page and turning this into a definition page is the easiest way to go.
Calling it "Cuckold Fetish" would, in my opinion, remove the possibility of using non-fetishistic examples of the trope. The Futurama example above is one. It completely fits the "Cuckold" archetype, but it's not played explicitly for fetish.
Cuckold Genre for the general examples, and this (or Netorare) as a definition page?
Also, this has 9600+ inbounds.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI like that suggestion.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!I'm not sure I understand it.
What was the suggestion again?
A split, between Cuckhold Genre or whatever we name it for the trope and Netorare or Netorare Genre for the concept.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanOkay. But what would that fix?
The problem mentioned in your first post? That the name is bad?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanBut that would be only marginally better. As I mentioned before, this sometimes just a trope, not an entire genre.

Ah. Well, I kind of approve of a split between Cuckhold or whatever we'll name it and Netorare/Netorare Genre.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanFrankly I don't see any evidence that this is broken. Also, the huge number of inbounds compared to the relatively small number of wicks suggest to me that lots of people are coming here specifically to learn about this term.
Also, If we were to have a page for "Anytime anyone sleeps with someone else's significant other" it would not be this trope. It might be supertrope to this trope, but it should not replace it.

[upThat's a minimalistic version of what "cuckold" means in a fictional context. It's not just a spouse sleeping with someone else, but it's an up-play of the conflict, discomfort, humiliation and betrayal that comes from it. How much it's played is dependent on a sliding scale.
That said, maybe naming it "Cuckold" would lead to misuse. But the "Genre" part should be dropped nonetheless.
Most places on Google refer to it as a genre, though.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanCuckold? I googled the word and didn't get anything like that.
No, netorare.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'd venture to guess that this is because English speakers don't have much reason to use a Japanese word unless they're talking about the genre.
The word itself is just a particular conjugation of the Japanese verb "netoru".

Yeah. It's a genre, but mostly in porn. That's not exclusive to Japan, either. There exist numerous websites that showcase the genre in America (a huge amount of porn that focuses on Black/White interracial relationships revolves around cuckolding).
In other forms of media, cuckolding is usually a plot point of a wider story. Like the aforementioned Futurama, or many uses of Scarpia Ultimatum or Please, I Will Do Anything!.
This raises another question entirely.
There are clean examples on the page, if that's what you're wondering.
Certainly it is possible to include a plot that is meant to appeal to a specific kink w/o actually being an explicit work, or a work that is primarily porn.
@21 I think the 5P went over it a while back.
This was in fact discussed there.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman
Crown Description:
What would be the best way to fix the page?
It's been mentioned before, but there is no reason to have this trope be named "Netorare Genre" when it not only does not apply to Japanese-only media, but actually redirects from Cuckold anyway.
Renaming it Cuckold will allow us to include other examples that have nothing to do with genre, either. Such as the Futurama movie were Labarbara leaves Hermes for Barbados Slim, and whom Hermes dreadfully discovers is a superior man to him in every way.
