things you are tired of telling non-gamers

• no! not every JRPG is Final Fantasy.
• no! games are not all "murder simulators".
• no! FPS does not mean only COD. darn it.

It's sad how true the third one is, even from people who should know better. I have to keep pointing out that games like Deus EX, System Shock, and Thief exist.

one friend of mine who is a gamer, did not even knew about Bioshock!

although personally, i think the second one is the saddest.

• no! the Mons genre did not start with Pokemon.

This one is specifically about parents who buys their kids video games. "If you're getting your kids a video game, then don't buy M rated games like Grand Theft Auto for them."

Link's name is not Zelda. Pokemon is for everyone (That goes for E rated games in general), and yes, games aren't murder simulators.

in fact the time it got closest to being a complaint thread was when one guy derailed it into a "Superman is boring because he is overpowered" discussion.

The PS 4 is not kicking off the 8th generation. The Wii does count as a video game console (Seriously, I had an argument about this last year). Not everything made by Japan is a quirky, fanservicey and/or melodramatic wankfest.

As this one stands right now, it's a complaint thread. There's no conversation, no discussion, no reasons being given, just a list of complaints.

Get a conversation going and it may live. Let it stay just a laundry list and it will be nuked.

The "non-comic readers" thread survived because it contained discussion and conversation.

Those would be good. So would why you think non-gamers think what they do, although that's a bit touchy, since you're guessing at someone else's motives, and it's easy to slip into dismissing or demonizing them. So would "what can the game companies or the gamers do to change these perceptions?"

Why <this opinion> bothers me?" That's another one that could go bad in a hurry, but could lead to interesting conversation. Handle it carefully...

I know that my Grandma and Grandpa does usually call it a Nintendo, but they also clearly love the Wii, so perhaps that's why?

I don't know if they had an Atari, as they don't seem to recognize the system at all. Playtstation and X Box, though...

I find it annoying when non-gamers don't treat games as anything more than a waste of existance, because a) it insults me and the things I enjoy, and b) I would argue that some games question human nature far more effectively than any Oscar Bait ever made, primarily because said games require direct human involvement.

Well, I would politely ask them to put aside their opinions, sit down, and give games a chance. I know that I would be very interested to hear what Roger Ebert would say after playing Spec Ops The Line, especially considering his opinions of videogames as art. That said, unfortunately, some men you just can't reach.

As for the "E for Everyone means EVERYONE," I would argue that games such as Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, and Advance Wars all encourage, and to an extent require, the ability to think strategically. And I'm sure more an one biologist has squee'd at some of the Pokemon evolutions.

Well to be fair, the SMT franchise isn't exactly very well known outside of gaming circles, or even within a lot of game circles for that matter outside of Persona.
