I prefer the current. Mainly because I see them as equally good, and I prefer no change over a non-improving change. That said, the suggestion is good.

Check out my fanfiction! The suggestion doesn't have a nice moustache like the current does. I think that both are illustrative, but the current is nicer as a page image.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I think the suggestion does have a mustache, it's just the style of the image kind of obscures it.
Moon◊I actually think that Dudley is worse than no image because it's confusing. He's so damn dapper that it makes it look like the trope is about a Gentleman who is a fighter, which could lead to misuse. The suggestion has the same problem, I think.
A picture of two gunfighters facing off for a duel, or any other such instance would work.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Oh my, I like that.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. How is that any different than the Dudley pic, concept-wise?
I'd be fine with pulling it for being misleading.
I don't think it's misleading since it's clear (at least to me) that it's not a character trope.
Check out my fanfiction!I don't really think it's misleading at all. Still, it is borderline JAFAAC, so suggestions are good. I like the photo one.
- 6 is fantastic.
My main issue with 6 is that the white text isn't going to be readable at wiki size.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'd say the white text is just Bonus Points.
So... could someone just fill me in on what the suggestion actually has to do with the trope itself?
From what I can tell it's utterly non-illustrative, is it just for fun?
Just want to make sure we're on the same page.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.My issue with it is similar; we're proposing to trade a pic of a gentleman fighter for a sign for a club for gentleman fighters...where does the trope actually kick in? Is it the white text on the sign?
I picked it as a mix of Visual Pun and illustration of a gentlemanly fighter.
Not going to pretend it's the best it could be, but I find it leaps and bounds around "tuxedo guy with boxing gloves".
, , So I'm not the only one who is utterly mindboggled as to how everybody is missing what this trope is actually about.
This trope is not about fighting gentlemen. It is about two opposing characters fighting honorably by following some basic rules instead of just trying to kill each other at any cost. See the quote and examples. Both of those page images are actively misleading.
I'm not sure Dudley even counts as an example, considering that a key part of this is that at least one of the parties has a more practical option (Like Cell just blowing up the world instead of giving the heroes a chance to fight him in a tournament or Inigo attacking Wesley on the way up the Cliffs of Insanity in the Princess Bride).

Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.In that case, that sounds like a TRS issue, because we have two tropes here.
One is a trope in which two characters agree to fight honorably and gentlemanly. The other is a character trope about a character who always fights honorably and gentlemanly, but doesn't succumb to Honor Before Reason for any supposed reason.
It's not a trope repair shop problem; the name matches the description ("Let's fight like gentlemen," not "fighting gentleman"), the Laconic matches the description, and the examples match the description. The only off part is the image, which has nothing to do with the description.

Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.(In case it was misinterpreted, my comment about the moustache is just because I like it, not because it adds to the trope.) The guy is in a tux which does imply, I think, that he follows some social rules at least. The most common way I think of the trope is fighting without weapons, and he is clearly unarmed other than fists. Keep Until Better Image Suggested.
This is a post I think I agree with.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. And I think it's fine because I think it's illustrating the trope. It's someone you'd expect to follow the trope. He seems like he's challenging to me. "Let's fight like gentlemen" is clear from it. I've never once mistaken it as "gentleman who fights".

Check out my fanfiction!I'm really not seeing anything from the listed examples that could serve as a suitable image without doing a multi shot image.
The current and suggestions imply that it's just about fighting without weapons. I would prefer something where there are two people as long as they have the same weapon. It would be difficult to find one that makes it clear what it's trying to show though. Keep the current for now.
First off, let me say that I'm a huge fan of Dudley. And, as the Trope Namer, I almost feel like I'm betraying him for saying his pic is just a face and a caption. However, at the same time, the above is Fan Myopia and that's stucking fupid.
So here's my suggestion for a new pic which goes much further◊ to demonstrate. If we could get the white text to come out well, it'd demonstrate the trope even better, but alas, at wiki size, that's not likely.
Discuss, chaps. And remember: keep it classy!
