This thread is the only indication I've ever seen that Severa was that unpopular.
I'm not sure "popular enough to pop up in the sequel" is scrappy.
Where there's life, there's hope.I think that it's safe to say we can cut all intentional examples of ethnic Scrappy, right?
Why?
Check out my fanfiction!Because by definition Scrappies weren't intended to be despised. But a lot of the examples on the page tend to be "intentionally invoked".

Well, those examples are just a type of Hate Sink, which cannot be a Scrappy, if I remember right?
...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol.Exactly. Permission to remove those ones?
Actually false. A Hate Sink can be The Scrappy. It depends on the nature of the hate. If the character is only hated for the intended reason, then no, not The Scrappy. If the character is hated because she wrecks the story, then she's The Scrappy. A Hate Sink is a focus for antagonistic feelings from the audience. People want someone to root against. People want someone to blame for what happens to the protagonists. But if people think the story would be better if that character was just erased from the story completely, then The Scrappy applies.
However, we do have stricter requirements for examples that are both Hate Sink and The Scrappy, since you need to clearly explain why the hate the character gets is for being The Scrappy, rather than just more Hate Sink hate.

Check out my fanfiction!I found a misuse of the Ethnic Scrappy trope that we should probably take a look at.
For NBA 2K16: Livin' Da Dream (which is listed on the main page instead of the YMMV page, for starters), Vic Van Lier is a greedy, idiotic asshole who does nothing aside from leech off of the main character for the entirety of the story. And when he gets called out, then he threatens to blackmail the main character (who is supposed to be his best friend, for the record) unless they keep letting him run wild.
The entry mentions all of this, and has him listed as an Ethnic Scrappy for some reason. He's not a horrible stereotype, which is what that trope's generally used for, so I don't know why he's listed there instead of as a regular Scrappy.
So just a plain shoehorn?
Check out my fanfiction!Yeah, I think so. Should I move the entry to the YMMV page with the proper label?
If the shoe fits, put it on the right foot.
Check out my fanfiction!Speaking of which, do characters Rescued from the Scrappy heap belong on The Scrappy page?
If their considered a scrappy no longer, then no, they aren't needed on the scrappy page.
Muramasa got.You know, In The Western Animation section of The Scrappy is kind of weird. It puts the Tropenamer's example above everything else, and then goes of on a list of all the Take that Scrappy examples that scrappy's had. And throughout that they list other lesser Scooby-Doo Scrappies. I think that could be organized better. Anyone else feel the same?
Sounds like a case of Trope Namer Syndrome at work.
I'll put it right.
Scratch that, "Scrappy Stays on top because he's trope namer" according to admin notes. That's absolute BS. Trope namers aren't supposed to get special treatment. DEFINITELY Trope Namer Syndrome at work here. May we please change this?
Is there any actual reason for doing that other than that you don't like it? Now, the editorializing after the example might be worth looking at.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Consistency? The Scrappy may get to keep its name for grandfather clause reasons, but I don't think it deserves any more special privilege than that when it comes to Trope Namer Syndrome - which is considered a bad thing elsewhere.
Precisely.
...So, do we change it or...who put those notes, Catcher?
I don't know. I checked the history, but there are over a thousand edits.
That's alright, I just input a few keywords into Ctrl+F to sniff out who put it there. It seems that someone named Ms CC 93 added it. As far as I can tell, they aren't an admin or moderator, they just seem to have added it "Because he's the trope namer". I think that this calls for action. The text mostly derails into Take That, Scrappy! examples after the first couple paragraphs or so anyway.

If she's liked in the region she was created, she's not The Scrappy. That's the definition.
Check out my fanfiction!
