I don't think this thread will get any responses lol...

So anyway, I loved this show and I thought it was unique, wacky, and underrated. What do you guys think?

I watch it time to time now that they've put it up on Boomerang.

At its best, the show was a master of comedic pacing; the pace was intense, chaotic, but consistently hilarious in its best episodes.

Best one has to be "Frankie My Dear."

Underrated? I always thought it had a good amount of popularity, to be honest.

Either way, they added it to Boomerang so I watch it occasionally. I do remember a few episodes that were darker in tone, but it was pretty cool when I was a child.

All I can remember is Bloo being a douchebag. :/

I recall a lot of flanderization with Bloo; he was a decent character in the movie. But the series itself seemed to make him more and more of a douchebag each episode.

The movie was the pilot episode, showing how Bloo came to be in the house. His characterization is strikingly different than how later seasons and episodes portray him.

It most certainly wasn't bad. I have watched a few early episodes when they premiered years ago and they left something of a good impression. Definitely worth giving a try.

I never did religiously follow the show though.

[up][up] That's one of the reasons I lost interest in the series. Seems like it was another victim of Seasonal Rot.

[up] I actually agree with you. Some episodes had Black/Kafka Komedy and some of the endings were very mean-spirited. I agree. I also remember Bloo being a decent friend, and then I started to dislike him as the seasons went by.

To me there were only a few times when Bloo really crossed the show's equivalent of the Moral Event Horizon, which due to the episodic nature he could easily snap back from. "Bloo Tube" was one, where he persisted in being an absolute misanthrope through the episode that it rather stopped being funny, but if they kept him at just the right level of Jerkass, it was often brilliant

@13 Yes I even saw that on the YMMV page...don't get me wrong the majority of the episodes were good, but episodes like "Imposters Home For Umm...Make Em Up Pals", "Everybody Knows It's Bendy," and "Fosters Go to Europe" make me wanna change the channel whenever fosters comes on.

@14 The sad thing is that his personality got worse each season. First he was a Nice Guy, then a Jerk with a Heart of Gold, then a Jerkass who's heart of gold moments were rare, and then became a Jerk with a Heart of Jerk with fans wondering why Mac can't just leave Bloo already.

I loved "Everyone knows it's Bendy," just because of how completely over-the-top Bloo's plan was

[up] Several people

Yes, the movie was the pilot. Bloo was not only a tolerable character, he was an enjoyable one. But, indeed, seasonal rot took affect. Each passing episode made him into a bigger jerkass. Why? Rule of Funny, to kids anyway. Worst part is, a lot of episodes don't really show him learning anything from it..so he continues his jerkassery. I guess the characterization got flat.

I know I'm bumping up a 7 year old thread, but it's quite interesting.

https://mobile.twitter.com/CrackMcCraigen/status/876546507004035072

I found this some tweets from Craig Mc Cracken where he talks about Bloo's jerkish behavior.

"Comedy often comes from conflict & somebody had to create the conflict. Though Bloo messed up a lot he was never malicious."

https://mobile.twitter.com/CrackMcCraigen/status/880905435003314176

"Well, Mac created Bloo as a playmate when he was really young, and it was Bloo's job to come up with fun things to do."

"As Mac got older his idea of fun began to change. Unfortunately Bloo was still thinking of Mac in terms of him being a little Kid."

"That's why Bloo's plans seemed childlike & selfish. He was still trying to entertain a very little Kid. He didn't mature like Mac did."

Someone screenshot the tweets.
