How do you feel about Skylanders: Disney Edition?

http://kotaku.com/5976190/disney-infinity-is-disney-skylanders-more-or-less

Inspired by Toy Box Mode from the Toy Story 3 game, Disney Infinity is using a Skylanders gimmick to allow for full crossover shenanigans. At launch in June, there will be Monsters University, Pirates Of The Caribbean, and The Incredibles figures sets as well as Toy Story, Cars and Wreck It Ralph being part of things.

There also appears to be stuff from Nightmare Before Christmas and Phineas And Ferb...kinda strange, for a Disney crossover, Wreck-It Ralph is the only one so far who is actually from the Disney Animated Canon.

Other than that, it looks like it could be pretty interesting. The ability to create places and levels is pretty cool, although if Little Big Planet is any indication, I'll probably suck at it. But at least I'd be able to play other people's levels.

I'm a little confused as to how the whole thing works...does it even have any levels on its own, or do those only come from the figurines or making your own/downloading ones other people made? If right off the bat, it just dumps you in the sandbox with nothing in particular to do, I don't know how much I'd enjoy it.

As a big Disney fan, this gives me much more incentive to collect these than Skylanders. And it gives me an excuse to collect merch of characters that would be somewhat embarrassing for me to have (coughDisneyPrincessescough)

If it's done well and with some care (remember how Disney Universe turned out? Yeah, not like that), then this could potentially be one of the awesomest things to happen to Disney fans ever. Like, more awesome than Kingdom Hearts awesome. All of the features promised sound insanely ambitious, and if they do what they promise and can deliver on that ambition, this sounds like a riotously time-suckingly good time. Fingers crossed, though.

Also, someone had to try aping Skylanders eventually! Let's wish 'em luck with it.

The only thing holding me back from completely loving the crap out of this is the fact that their doing the figure thing, which means i'd have to pay every time i want more than 2 characters, especially if every starter pack ends up having the exact same characters.

Still, what's seems to be like a Disney-specific LittleBigPlanet sounds incredibly awesome.

I already love the concept. But since Phineas And Ferb is getting in, I'm hoping that they throw in some Gravity Falls as well. (If I can play as Gruncle Stan or Mabel I will prioritize buying this game)

Hopefully we can have some couch co-op like Skylanders. Given the premise being pure Sandbox, I doubt that, but you never know.

Sheesh, this topic could use a revival. Anyway, since the last post, a Cars Play Set was announced, and the game was delayed to August 18th.

Also, new Toy Box trailer:

I can't believe it's been this long and still still haven't seen Mickey and company. I hope that isn't indicative of anything.

I hope they bring in some shows other than Phineas and Ferb while they're at it. They win forever if I can play as Jake Long or Filmore.

[up] and [up][up]: I'm sure the guys at Avalanche Software have been combing through Disney history for playable characters, and I know they couldn't possibly ignore its iconic mascot... and his friends. Heck, one of the hexagonal Power Disks is related to him.

Also, according to the beginning of the trailer I posted, Randall appears to be playable. I don't think I've seen him in any media before, so... confirmed?

Woody and Lone Ranger, The best crossover cowboy duo.

Now, then, come ooooonnnn Tron or Lilo & Stitch sets! A black and white retro set would be cool as well. As would an Epic Mickey set, while i'm on retro sets.

I'm looking forward to building tons of stuff. This is looking like Skylanders meets LittleBigPlanet meets Disney to me, and I love it!

...still waiting for Gravity Falls stuff. Still waiting.

What platforms is this coming too?

Someone mentioned Filmore and Jake Long. If they featured, I'd actually have to buy whatever console it appears on.

Cool.

Filmore is from Filmore a show about a Hall monitor who goes around being a detective. He was also incredibly cool.

The problem so far Disney seems, as usual, dead set on ignoring everything set, movie-wise, between Walt's death and The Little Mermaid, and TV-wise, before their current hits. The game should still be good with what it already has, but I wouldn't hold my breath for Disney to aknowledge anything set between its Golden Age and the present day.

Considering that — from what I understand — it's based on the Skylander's model (buy toys, use them ingame), they're eventually going to run out of toys based off of those properties, which means the way should open up to have some of the other properties you mentioned.
