I think the new one is better in terms of both image quality and getting the idea across without relying on the caption.
Here's what I'm seeing on that second point.
The positions of the three people in the old one could just as easily be that the white haired guy is intervening in what he thinks is a fight between the black-haired guy and the girl. The girl is off to one side. The way the black-haired guy is holding her hand, to me, looks a lot like he just intercepted a(n attempted) slap from her. She's concentrating all her attention on the black-haired guy, which weakens any impression that she cares what the white-haired guy is doing.
In the new one: The girl is front and center, balanced between the two guys. The guys are clearly confronting each other, and the fact that each one of them has one hand on her shoulder indicates that she's probably the topic of the disagreement — that is a 'claiming' gesture. It also helps that the look on her face is pretty much along the lines of "Oh, crap, this again..." — it isn't the first time they've done it and it isn't going to be the last time.

Was browsing through ImageSource.Anime And Manga earlier, and noticed that this image was replaced without discussion on November (I mean, it's clearly not Inuyasha, that's for sure). While I think I might agree that the new image is an improvement, I'd rather have it be official.
