Probably the former. If not, I can see him going absolutely mad. He wouldn't even be safe up in the mountains or whatever since he can read animal minds too. While that would be more interesting, no reference to it has been made. Also, there have been others with mind read that never lost control of it, like that old guy from Fuchin temple whose name escapes me.
he lost control of it the moment he joined the party.
no way in hell im not having him mind read every mind in the continent.
and then the world with shiba. they dont got no choice =O
He probably eventually learned just how often people think extremely hateful, disgusting, carnal, or murderous thoughts.
I have a message from another time...There was a complaint that Ivan's personality could not be begged down but to me he just seemed like a creepy smart who understands way too much for his age (this naturally being because years of mind reading would have allowed him to generally learn people well enough not to even need to mind read them anymore). Mia I will give you though.
use your other hand! I'm not strong enough to pull you up. Her only line in the entirety of Lost Age? I guess I just never noticed because I found her too useful when she was in the party to care. Garret would probably be heavy though, given all the armor these guys wear.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackI thought it was more because he's the buffest of the GS 1 crew and therefore heavier than everyone else.
Mia had a line or two at Mars Lighthouse when The Reveal happened, but she was the quietest of the original party, yes.
Even with the other characters, I at least got the sense of who they were supposed to be in broad strokes. Isaac was the strong silent type, Garet was the idiot, Mia... well she didn't have many lines, but I remember her not putting up with Garet's crap, Felix was the brooder, Jenna was the pissy one, Sheba was the playful, adventurous type (weirdly), and Piers was the disgruntled elder.
Ivan, I didn't get anything from at all. Yeah, his mind reading was a little creepy, but it didn't have much to do with the way he acted. He was always just kinda calm, neutral and boring, even when the plot was focusing on him. The only thing that seemed to faze him ever was when he met Hama, and even then, he just kinda let it go.

Huh I interpreted Isaac a bit differently.
Isaac is the sort of guy who is heroic to a fault, and slightly naive. This can make him a bit judgemental(which he sort of comes off as in TLA) and come off as slightly self-righteous. But in the end he wants to do the right thing and if that requires him to change his current view, he'll be willing to do it. I agree with him being quieter than Garet or Ivan.
Oh, I completely agree. I just meant that in the sense that he doesn't speak unless he has to and is very blunt and to the point. No-nonsense, if you will.
...Which is why his characterization in DD seems... off. I know it's been thirty years of game time and about ten years since the devs wrote for Lost Age, but seriously, it was like his personality did a complete 180 and now he's a cool whimsical old guy that doesn't like to give straight answers. I know having kids can change a person, but as far as I know, it usually makes them more responsible, not less.
Maybe worshipping the Wise One has changed him a bit, or it has something to do with the last Mourning Moon.
Darn it, I want the sequel so bad.
I have a message from another time...As was mentioned, that flash was only to show that you beat it with the right element. And yes, observant people were probably expected to notice that this gave a higher chance of rarer item drops... but this doesn't mean they were expected to notice that it only actually helps depending on how many actions you take during the battle preceding that victory. RN Gs like the one the first two games used are the simple way to do "random", not some convoluted scheme to get players to math their way to victory.
As do I. I think this time they'll be able to fix the things DD messed up on, kind of like how LA improved on the first game's flaws.
I found the motivation to replay this game after about a year of having Dark Dawn but not playing it. I'm to start with the original first, getting some more discussion of the series out of tropers here hopefully.

So... how would you know who your favorite DD party member is if you haven't played it?
Replay. I've played all the games at least once.

I see you're a Jupiter Man.
I'm drawn to them more than anyone else when I really think about what those 3 characters have going for them.
i'd favor all three of those just because they have mind read.
karis, you were my favourite, but you didnt have mind read...
...so go sit on that bench over there with reif, matthew and tyrell.
I like to employ alternate character interpretation alot in my games, so at the moment, I'm playing Golden Sun, and I'm roleplaying Isaac as a dude who'd rather just stay home, and is only going on this quest because he likes Jenna.
Of course, if I hadn't played Dark Dawn and known Valeshipping actually happened, it would likely be completely different.
And I expect all the characterisation I gave him will be completely different in the Lost Age, too.

Favorite Lost Age party member: Jenna
Favorite Dark Dawn party member: Amiti

Does anyone know if there's an action replay code to max all stats in the first game?
I'd like to see is Saturos and Menardi are actually beatable in the first fight against them.

Cool. I'll get on testing that.
@Tarsen: C'mon. It's not her fault she did not inherit Mind Read from her father. Talking about that, Ivan grew to resent that ability due to reading one too many minds. Is it because he chose to read people's minds or did he lose control over it or something?
