On TV Tropes, it's very common for editors to misuse appearance tropes, as well as tropes whose names make them sound like they could be appearance tropes.
Meaningful Appearance tropes are often misused in ways that overlook the "Meaningful" aspect, resulting in Zero Context Examples and misuse in the form of examples that have no meaning even if the tropes themselves are not People Sit on Chairs.
The Appearance Tropes Cleanup sandbox covers tropes with potential issues. Tropes that simply require cleanup will go through this thread, while tropes that require more significant action will have to go through the Trope Repair Shop.
April 2, 2023 update: This thread is no longer for making changes to tropes, and was brought back from the Projects Morgue solely for cleanup. Making changes to tropes is still a job for the Trope Repair Shop.

I think we should finish Fingerless Gloves and then close this thread. All we need do is launch the Hobo Gloves TLP and then turn Fingerless Gloves into a disambiguation between that and Meaningful Appearance or something else that’s broad enough.
The crowner (which isn’t attached to the thread anymore ) called for making a Gloves Of Toughness or Gloves Of Coolness trope in the TLP but I think we can just yard that since it’s been and no one is interested in writing a draft for it.

Hobo Gloves has already been launched, so I agree with adding the others to the Salvage Yard, disambiguating Fingerless Gloves, and closing this thread.

Ok, I finally got around to disambiguating Fingerless Gloves. Don’t have time to clean up the wicks right now though because I have other projects to do.

I cut the Laconic and I'll add the page to TRS Wick Cleaning.
A couple of questions:
- Are we Yarding the other splits that came up alongside Hobo Gloves?
- Are we going to close this thread in favor of TRS after wick cleanup for Fingerless Gloves is done?
Edit: I added Gloves of Toughness and Gloves of Coolness to the Salvage Yard. Did I miss anything?

Yes, we should close this thread after wick cleaning is done. I'm going to keep the Appearance Tropes Cleanup sandbox around for self reference though. Also, yes, we just have to yard Gloves Of Coolness and Gloves Of Toughness (which you already did)

I finally finished Fingerless Gloves today! I also made sandboxes for Sandbox.Gloves Of Toughness and Sandbox.Gloves Of Coolness for salvageable FG wicks.
Since all of the work for Fingerless Gloves is done, I'm going to lock and morgue this thread.

OK, per mod discussion, this thread was brought back solely as a cleanup thread, with this thread's scope being reduced to only cleaning up tropes because we're still going to use TRS and not this thread for making changes that don't involve simply cleaning up tropes.
The mod discussion that led to this being brought back started in this TRS thread
for Girlish Pigtails, since it was determined that only cleanup was needed.

Anyways, I'm kinda disappointed that the rename idea didn't go through since I do think "pigtails=youthfulness" is a valid idea but the way it's named attracts a lot of ZCE.

IDK if I agree that the name is causing problems (it's better than most appearance trope titles, as it actually specifies the character trait); appearance tropes in general attract issues not for their titles but because people don't know how to actually contextualize them.

Girlish is a synonym for youthful so it's not really the name that's the issue. Appearance tropes just decay like this by nature.
In any case, I'll look through some of the wicks when I have time.

OK, I have Peek A Bangs queued up again because it's still has issues without thinking the trope just about the hairstyle but I am having second thoughts. I have my OP and old wick check at Sandbox.Peek A Bangs Wick Check. I just want to make if this is an issue can't be fixed with clean up alone. If it is, I'll remove the trope from the Sandbox.TRS Queue.

Related to what I said about bringing up the idea of retiring this thread in the mod chat, there were a couple of ideas I had that I didn't mention until now:
For the record, I wouldn't do either of those things without consulting the other mods, especially since I haven't received many opinions on what to do about this thread's lack of activity compared to TRS's increase in activity.
