Entire strip of 1995/06/24 from Dilbert. I'm pretty sure we can't use it, as such. I haven't pulled it yet, although I probably should.

Since Randall has, IIRC, given us carte blanche use of any xkcd comic he made (even though they're single panel), I went looking for a good UNIX-related replacement. Not come up with much good, yet, although I noticed the classic "sudo make me a sandwich" comic isn't in use yet. Not as good as the current, but probably better than nothing.

I don't get that xkcd comic in the slightest.

You have to know what "sudo" means. Commands preceded by that string are executed with root security privileges regardless of the logged-in user's status. Common sequence of events: enter command, computer says you can't do that, enter sudo command (and password), computer says okie dokie boss.

It requires a little too specific knowledge about coding. Kinda funny, though.

That strip often relies on what amounts to a nerdy in-joke.

Not sure why my comment would be interpreted otherwise, unless you think it's possible I would say that myopic=good, which makes me sad.

Instead of pointless arguing, why don't we find an actual image? Like this, maybe?

I don't see any arguments.

Thank you for demonstrating my point. Now can we please get back on topic?

I suggest this.

"Stop talking about that other suggestion, and talk about mine instead."? :)

That one ("where there's a shell, there's a way") doesn't say anything about the article tho. Not sure what would. That page should probably be filed under Useful Notes instead of Main.

I like the last suggestion, and I agree that it should probably be moved to Useful Notes/...don't take that as a go-ahead, though. I'll ask about it.

Other suggestions I came up with on my Archive Binge:

Linux User at Best Buy
Cautionary
Supported Features
Surgery (this one kinda goes for the same punchline as the current)
Debian Main (not feeling this one though)

Also looked for a bash shell on Google Images (a boring-but-practical approach), but haven't found anything good as of yet.

What about an empty shell prompt? [1]

I don't think that is boring :) Says a lot about UNIX actually...

The only issue I have with the shell prompt is that I couldn't find anything that fit cleanly into 350px. Maybe I should switch from Win7 to Ubuntu and see if I can't rip a Terminal prompt at around that size...

I think the just last two panels of the Dilbert one would work fine.

Just trim the first panel off the Dilbert comic and it works fine.

I took a couple of screenshots of Terminal in Ubuntu; just an ls of my /home/ directory and one run of fortune (for some added wit) each. I'll see about tossing them in the topic when I get home from work.

Real issue was finding results for fortune that fit within the 350px limit without wrapping a tiny bit of a line onto the next one. I tried shrinking the font one more time, but it just became nearly illegible at that size...

Re [up][up]: I'd saved the images to an external hard drive (NTFS format), but they didn't show up on Windows. Checking the drive for errors on Windows was able to recover files that befell a similar fate in the past, but this time it decided, instead, to just delete the files. Swell.

I still have them on my Linux partition, but I've been rather lazy about going in there and fetching them.

Okay, I've been slacking on this one. I've got eight shots, some better than others, but instead of posting each one in here and creating probably the tallest post ever made on TV Tropes (or bumping into some limit of images per post that I'm not aware of), here are eight links to the relevant files.

Some were taken at native res, others were taken at a larger res but shrunken to 350. Annoyingly, 80 characters doesn't fit as cleanly within 350 as I'd like.
