So, who all would be interested in an action-packed RP featuring military organizations from all over the world and from fiction as well?

I'm not sure to have a focus on The War On Terror (global counter-terrorism, not just the American conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan), a World War III scenario that is NOT nuclear in nature, or an entirely new conflict?

I'm game for it. I think all three are interesting — am I correct in saying that you're looking to create a sort of Tom Clancy-style feel with this one?

Would you just settle combat all freeform-like, or would you use a system?

[up]Have not decided on that yet

Guys, should the Military RP be a standard freeform character RP, or a stat-based RP centered around factions? I am working on a stat system for factions and military operations (as well as military strength)

[up]Sounds good to me

I had some ideas for factions, each faction gets one player. And of course, there will be Loads And Loads Of Characters (or factions in this case). Each faction starts out with a basic power level (a knife and a sidearm, as well as a primary weapon such as an assault rifle or submachine gun), and players can upgrade their weaponry, acquire new weaponry and supplies, and make their military more powerful.

There will be stats for military strength, a weapons stat system, an in-game money system, and I'm working on a combat system.

  • US Army (United States)
  • US Marine Corps (United States)
  • British Armed Forces (United Kingdom)
  • French Armed Forces (France)
  • Bundeswehr (Germany)
  • Bersaglieri (Italy)
  • Russian Army Ground Forces (Russia)
  • People's Liberation Army (China)
  • Canadian Armed Forces (Canada)
  • Japan Ground Self-Defense Forces (Japan)
  • Republic of Korea Marines (South Korea)
  • Korean People's Army (North Korea)
  • Israeli Defense Forces (Israel)
  • Mexican Army (Mexico)
  • Hamas (Islamic Insurgent Group)
  • Rebel Forces (Western Terrorists)
  • Shinobi Regular Forces (Hidden Leaf Village, Joke Character faction)

I may remove the Shinobi Regular Forces as they are meant to be a joke faction and they don't get any guns starting out, just a knife and some martial arts/ninja weaponry. (They can acquire guns later)

I will have the full stat system posted soon, with a clearer explanation behind the game mechanics and factions.

Dang! I was hoping for sub factions like the SR Unit and the National Anti-Terror Service, but oh well.

[up]I will add sub-factions if you want, actually. The factions list is just a rough draft

Ah. I was thinking that there may peeps basing on the same country, but also in the same faction problem (I think).

Anyway, I need to wait for further details.

Okay, here's the basic system.

NOTE: This system is a rough draft and its usage depends on player support

BASIC MECHANICS

There will be a list of many factions, and each player will join a faction. There will be one player to a faction. Each faction starts out with $1000 of in-game money and some simple small arms. The in-game money is used to buy weapons, vehicles, armor, and other equipment for their faction. A player cannot use weapons, equipment, or military hardware that their faction does not own.

Money is earned by making in-character posts. Each in-character post generates $25 at first, although there will be modifiers based on in-character ranks.

IN-CHARACTER POSTS

Once a player joins a faction, they create a character. This character is a member of the faction and starts at the rank of Private. In-character posts are from the perspective of that character.

There will be a table of ranks that determine a modifier to how much money is earned. In-character posts generate $25 each, but more money will be added as you advance in rank.

Characters advance in rank by reaching a number of posts in-character.

The table of ranks is as follows, from least to greatest....

  • Private
    • Earned At: Default Rank
    • Money Earned Per Post: $25

  • Private First Class
    • Earned At: Five posts
    • Money Earned Per Post: $50

  • Corporal
    • Earned At: 10 posts
    • Money Earned Per Post: $75

  • Sergeant
    • Earned At: 20 Posts
    • Money Earned Per Post: $100

  • Sergeant First Class
    • Earned At: 25 Posts
    • Money Earned Per Post: $120

  • Lieutenant
    • Earned At: 30 Posts
    • Money Earned Per Post: $140

  • Captain
    • Earned At: 50 Posts
    • Money Earned Per Post: $160

  • Major
    • Earned At: 60 Posts
    • Money Earned Per Post: $180

  • Lieutenant Colonel
    • Earned At: 70 Posts
    • Money Earned Per Post: $200

  • Colonel
    • Earned At: 80 Posts
    • Money Earned Per Post: $250

  • General
    • Earned At: 90 Posts
    • Money Earned Per Post: $500

  • Field Marshal
    • Earned At: 100 Posts
    • Money Earned Per Post: $1000

Combat system is still in the works

Seems like a lot of work to make your own system, why not just use an existing one?

[up]I'm not that familiar with combat systems, but you must admit that the faction-building system is impressive considering I came up with it in like an hour and a half

That being said, I am willing to accept a pre-existing combat stat system

[up]I am working on a story, but I have considered a Wide-Open Sandbox approach involving a free-for-all World War III scenario that is NOT nuclear in nature.

There is also the idea of a standard scenario based on The War On Terror (That is, the global war. Not just American conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan although those conflicts will be included as well)

Starting to get Ghost in the Shell SAC memories in my head 'cause of that.

I will wait and see, but I get the feeling that all OC creations will have an easier time in GWOT than WW3, but I'll wait.

[up]I am leaning towards a Global War On Terror scenario that also invokes a Wide-Open Sandbox free-for-all.

I also will add two new factions to fit the scenario: Private Military Contractors and Al-Qaeda.

Ah those two are good.

Will there be Irish Defense Forces and the Singapore Armed Forces as a suggestion?

Not sure on bad guys aside from Al-Qaeda. I might give a long one.

But for PMCs, I have a sudden urge to list down all the awesome names I've heard lately in TV and in books and all.

[up]I can definitely add the Irish Defence Forces and I'll read up on Singapore's military

As for Al-Qaeda, they are a key component of The War On Terror, as is Hamas and the Rebel Forces (Which are a generic stand-in for Western Terrorists).

PMC's, I'm not sure about listing specific companies or just using "Private Military Contractors" as a catch-all term for mercenaries and PMC's.

Ah. But the GWOT also had other "enemy" forces targeted like most of the radical Muslim targets (including those are targeted in Russian-only-based operations) like the Caucasian Front and the Abu Sayyaf Group. But yeah, I'll leave that part to you since Al-Qaeda also works with other groups.

Same with PMCs. But I'll leave it to you if specific PMCs will be good guys or bad guys. But I doubt it since media like games make a majority of them bad guys.

Anyway, I need to check on my stuff in Survival since things are quiet. I await the final product. smile

If any other national militaries are worth "considering" to add, I'll add them in like sub-factions.
