People assume that Maginot's lineup is made up of interbellum tanks — Somuas and B1s for example. The Semoventes can EASILY knock those out, and the carro velloces are incredibly effective harassers as shown by the OVA.
Hey Antiteilchen.
Not seen the OVA so I'm not sure exactly what you're describing, but tanks can drift.

If Maginot are going for interbellum tanks, then the absolute best they can be driving would be Char 1s and Somuas - both of which were decent machines (the Char 1 was notoriously tough), but not beyond the capabilities of Anzio's lineup. If Maginot go Free French, then its Shermans, which, again, certainly outclass Anzio but are still eminently killable. The M13/40's 47mm gun could pack a nasty punch IRL, especially if loaded with HEAT.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiAm I the only one a little bummed that it seems that all of the schools are Japanese and not just other nationalities competing with Translation Convention ?
edited 16th Jul '14 2:07:21 PM by Thorn14
So I haven't seen any of the OVAs. Are Commie translating them like they did the series?
edited 16th Jul '14 2:35:37 PM by Chariot
They've all been translated by AK. And Commie hates Gu P, so no.
re Maginot: They're the pre-Blitzkreig French school, so yeah, Somuas and B1s. BC is the Free French school (they have the cross of Lorraine).
Also, thanks for your review. It gave me the final push to check it out.
That's probably not physically impossible in a tracked vehicle, but I don't know if the CV could actually do it. I'd certainly be worried about throwing a track. The CV also had fairly crummy suspension and thin tracks with bad grip. It's advantage was that it was light - a Cadillac Escalade weighs more - but even then their road speed isn't actually any quicker than a Panzer IV or an M3 Lee.
No problem for the review. Glad you liked it.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiLike quite a few other vehicles of the period, the CV was basically a developed Carden-Lloyd carrier, after all.
Keep Rolling OnRandom thought: In the Gu P universe the Sailor Fuku makes more sense than in real life.^^
I thought everyone agrees that Ooarai is 'freestylin', nationality theme be damned.
Same as usual.... Wing it.They can't afford a theme.
But if every school comes from a different country, would Oarai still come from Japan? Miho would also be a German exchange student. Which would make her a Mighty Whitey. And That's Terrible.

Ooarai doesn't represent any country because they have to make do with what they can find.
And to be honest it seems like they didn't really restrict themselves even in the past. I mean, they didn't leave the ship to find those tanks with varying origins...

I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.Other countries do do Tankery - we meet a half-German exchange student in Little Army, who goes back to Germany at the end.
I wonder who the big Tankery nations are? Are the Germans as good at Tankery in the Panzerverse as they are at football IRL?
Schild und Schwert der ParteiYes other countries practice Sensha-do, enough so that there's an "orthodox" and "unlimited" league, with the former being practiced by the European mainland, Britain, and of course Japan, and the latter done by obviously the Americans.
If the booklets are to be believed, Sensha-do essentially replaces big-engine racing in Miho's world. It's in a bit of a slump however in the "present", due to the inherent costs of running mostly-vintage tanks, as well as something very vaguely alluded to related to attack helicopters.

Watching the Anzio OVA now. It's brilliant. My face when Carpaccio mentions that the pasta costs 3 million lira - or rather, 300 yen I well remember Italians catching stick for the crazy exchange rate pre-Euro.
Schild und Schwert der ParteiHere it is folks! GIRLS UND PANZER, ZA MOVIE trailer!
Looks like Chihatan will join in the fun. And against... Saint Glorianna?
Yay! This looks excellent. Supposedly a direct sequel. I wonder what its about? Maybe the international tankery tournament mentioned in the series?

Schild und Schwert der Partei
What we have so far looks like a rematch between Ooarai and St. Glorianna, but likely an exhibition match again. And since Ooarai doesn't have 20 tanks, it looks like Chihatan is filling up the rest of their roster with their own units.
Question: did Miho cost Kuromorimine the final or the semi-final of the previous year's tournament? Just because Katyusha comments to Darjeeling that she's surprised that she "failed where she succeeded last year" in the anime.
Schild und Schwert der Partei
I loved those Carri Veloci. They just kept going after being shot down several times. But how feasible would that turning-while-driving-thing actually be? Seemed rather unrealistic.
I wonder though why they didn't give them at least one anti-tank version. They could at least have put out the Type 89 with it. Would have made things more interesting.
And just how did they beat Maginot without the P40?
PS: Hi everyone.
