Batman has a daughter?

Damian is a girl?

[up][up] The original Huntress was the daughter of Batman and Catwoman.

The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again.

[up]

I was refering to whether you knew Batman had a daughter that was the Huntress or if you were simply making a joke.

This had nothing to do with DC or whatever they have to do with it.

[up]Just look at the Batgirl and Batwoman pages. There's been so many retcons, you could tell me that Dick Grayson is father Wayne's dad through time travel and I would believe you.

Fair enough.

Anyways moving back to the topic of the show:

It has yet to enter Aus screens here but it's coming to Nine Network who has been showing plenty of ads for it when it starts next year.

Mind you the only reason I think this is even getting to Aus screens is because Huntress's actress is Australian.

I'm going to start this show today, Marathon it from beginning to present. Honest opinions, is it actually good? Since so far all I've mostly gathered from reading the thread is that Ollie is a Designated Hero at best.

He started off as a dick who was simply in it for his own peace of mind but recent episodes, especially the one with the Royal Flush Gang have started to push him on a long arc towards becoming a more socially conscious and heroic character.

He does get better and personally I think the show has been getting better with him. So far it's been worth following.

He is still on the wrong end of Character Development, in my opinion.

Why?

And hmm... this should be interesting to see then. Looking at time for this and how many I need to watch/plans with girlfriend today, I think I'll watch two or three today alone then rest tomorrow.

He kills mooks left and right and leaves the guys who have actually committed the crimes unharmed. And most of the time those mooks are lowly security consultants who its implied haven't really done anything wrong.

You know Diggle the likable and charming security guard Ollie gets halfway through the first episode? Ollie mows through ten guys like him every time he puts on his costume.

[up] This.

He is, at the moment, solely focused on his mission, his (perceived?) wish of his father and how he is willing to do it.

He will, eventually, evolve beyond that, I think.

Figured it would be the reason and I don't disagree. I just dislike when people don't give reasons behind things, it drives my curiosity crazy if it's what I was thinking or if it be something else.

Slaughtering mooks while caring about the fate of named characters? Ollie is a PC!

I don't know why people keep expecting Ollie to just up and stop killing or even stop being secretive and mopey anytime soon.

He's been tortured on an island 5 years, after all. He's not got gonna get better in a few weeks.

I didn't say he should remain like this.

I'm saying, logically it's gonna take awhile.

Thats not really the point I'm trying to make. The point I'm trying to make is that sure he has been through hell but that doesn't really excuse the fact that he has murdered a lot of perfectly innocent people. He'd better go through one hell of a Heroic BSoD before the season's out or something has gone wrong with the writing staff.

I'm by this point actually convinced that his whole act so far is a huge huge huge case of PTSD. Or Hollywood PTSD, that is.

Though a quick look at The Other Wiki...Criteria for PTSD:

A: Traumatic Event - I think thats obvious.

B: Persistent re-experiencing - We get a lot of flashbacks.

C: Persistent avoidance and emotional numbing

  • decreased capacity (down to complete inability) to feel certain feelings - Might just be me but Arrow!Ollie does come across as somewhat numb and not-empathic.
  • an expectation that one's future will be somehow constrained in ways not normal to other people. - Becoming a bow shooting vigilante does count in a way, does it?

D: Persistent symptoms of increased arousal not present before "These are all physiological response issues, such as difficulty falling or staying asleep, or problems with anger, concentration, or hypervigilance. Additional symptoms include irritability, angry outbursts, hyper vigilance, increased startle response, and concentration or sleep problems." Hypervigilance, check. Anger...."YOU HAVE FAILED THIS CITY!"....check. Sleep problems...with all that training and "working" at night, he does not get much sleep, does he?

E: Duration of symptoms for more than 1 month - I'd call that a yes.

F: Significant impairment "The symptoms reported must lead to "clinically significant distress or impairment" of major domains of life activity, such as social relations, occupational activities, or other "important areas of functioning"." I'd say there is a yes here too.

Just a thought, I'm not saying it IS so.

Considering that Diggle has shown absolutely no compunctions about calling Ollie out and isn't portrayed as wrong in what he says, and that Ollie has started actually helping people and killing less as time has gone on, and Laurel was clearly disturbed when she thought he was gonna kill that one dude in the prison... yeah, I think it's obvious that Ollie's slowly losing his vicious streak and becoming more of a standard hero.

Really, the only thing up in the air is whether the show will try to forget that he went through a murderous phase and hope the audience does too, or if it will force him into confronting the deaths he's caused. It could go either way, really.

What's interesting though is that while Diggle is acting as Ollie's conscience he's still got some flaws himself.

The main one being that he has a slightly black and white view of crime and refuses to see the circumstances that have made people the way they are. In both the royal flush gang and huntress episodes Ollie's acknowledged them as victims of society while Diggle's written them off as simple criminals who need to be taken down.

I think that's kind of a neat dynamic and at the same time sets Ollie towards being the radical lefty he is in the comics/JLU cartoon.

Diggle, on the other hand, is set up to become a Green Lantern.
