Came across this in a bit of Wiki Walking following an edit.

I vaguely remember the name from walking around articles on Cracked, but without that I'd have no idea how the guy pictured for the page would apply to the trope.

Unfortunately, I can't think of a replacement, but surely we could find something more appropriate than the current image.

I think something like this pic would be better.

I like this better. Could probably find one in the actual competitions as well.

How do either of those suggestions demonstrate the "world's strongest" part, though?

WSM isn't just "this guy is strong", but "this guy is stronger than everyone else in the world" (or close enough to "everyone else" that it doesn't make any practical difference).

How do you suggest we demonstrate that?

[up][up] I understand that, but I find that an image of a guy who is very strong (e.g. shown by lifting something very heavy) is better than no picture.

^ Pages don't absolutely need an image. A bad image is worse than none at all.

^^ I dunno, I just know what's there currently ain't cutting it.

Just because it's not showing the "World's Strongest" part doesn't make it a bad image. You can assume that the viewer will make the extrapolation on their own, after all.

No, a bad image is the current one, with a man just standing around doing nothing strongman-related at all.

[up][up] Sure, but the suggestions in this thread aren't bad. They aren't perfect either, but they're a far cry from "bad".

I think we should try to find something else, but 3's a good backup plan.

I'm not really crazy about 3, but it works better than the current.

Thought that something like a belt or trophy would help and came across this. Maybe an image of Atlas could work? Definitely get's the whole World in there. Otherwise I feel this is heading quickly for wrestling territory.

I think the current is better actually because I don't know who the guy is but I see the resemblance to the Circus Side Show Strongman right down to the costume he's wearing. The others just read as strong weight-lighters to me. If the current one is still too Just a Face, then what about a circus side show poster. There should be plenty old enough to be out of copyright... like there's one here: [1]. A bit of googling could probably turn up more if that one isn't good.

I kinda like 13, too. As for copyright, it's Public Domain, the copyright is expired for anything published before Jan 1st, 1923.

I'm pretty sure 1898 predates 1923, but then I've never been good at math. tongue

I found a similar image ("World's strongest man" caption and all), but with the guy in question shown doing the feats of strength.

The Louis Cyr one can stay at its current size, as it's under the 350px width limit.

The other one with the weights, though, had to be sized down a bit, with the following result:

18 is probably the most fitting image, but I have doubts that most people will see the trope there and not the others.

17 is good, and could stand to be smaller. 18 is brilliant; source?

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

Smaller version of #17, from when I misinterpreted the 350px upper limit as being any dimension, not strictly width like it says on the uploader:

[up] It's not a horrible rule to go by, at any rate, unless it makes key details of the image illegible.
