Reiner continuing to suffer, only in a comical manner this time.

I like that they kind of poke fun at Ymir's fate, in terms of how everyone feels it was very left-field. So she keeps going ??? fuck this I'm leaving.

Finally read the latest chapter of the main series.

The one thing I've seen pointed out that could give hope is that the narrative hasn't been treating Eren as correct. He's been framed as going through a very dark time, and having lost his way to the point his dearest friends don't know him anymore and everyone is either disturbed, worried, or both.

That at least means some chance of him realizing he done fucked up, and trying to make it right.

That's even worse.

He'll fuck up his attempt to fix things and get captured...

...because he's Erza EREN.

That's kind of the point. Early on he thinks like a Stock Shōnen Hero and his friends have to save his ass, and the consequences are never pretty. He gets better, but then he fucks up again, and his friends are no longer by his side.

That's really the point of his character up until the end of Uprising Arc. The point of his character is to deconstruct Stock Shōnen Hero we all know. He's not all invincible, he makes fatal (well for his team around him) decisions, having to get saved a lot and, most importantly, puts a lot of pressure on him. It all peaked right up at Uprising arc, where all the consequences are at their maximum and he finally snapped, no longer able to hold on like what he could do to that rock back at Trost.

Sure Eren could be a Failure Hero, but remember, he learnt all those lessons for the past arcs and put to test by the time of Rt S arc.

Now I think about it, it is Reiner who fills the role of Failure Hero for failing his mission and dooming Marley into another war that they barely won. He also had to get saved a lot, made fatal decisions, not very invincible despite his armour and finally the pressure has severely affected his mental capacity, as much, if not moreso, than Eren. The difference is that he doesn't get the benefits of having his team backing him up like Eren does, due to Marleyan Warrior's culture, contrasting Paradis Soldier's culture.

Again and again, it always comes down to this argument of Eren.

IMO, Eren's extreme drive can be both a blessing and curse. Since all of his negative actions have been pointed out, it time to point his positive actions for once.

-Had he not decided to save Mikasa by himself, she would have spent the rest of her life as a sex slave instead of a competent and powerful soldier.

-He also convinced Armin to stop considering himself as an inferior, giving him his own path and courage.

-His friendship with Historia was one of the reasons why she rejected Rod's plan, preventing the Founding Titan from being rendered useless once again.

Not even mentioning his own merits in using the Attack Titan in aiding the Survey Corps to the point they go from a hated group of weirdos who always gotten eaten to the overthrowing their corrupt monarchy and finally being respected by everyone, whether or not he was simply chosen just because he was Grisha's son.

And remember the last time he decided to sit still?

The Levi Squad would have lived longer and the Female Titan may have captured far quickly than usual. He took Levi's words to heart.

That's why I sympathize for a bit in his role at the festival. He may have considered it as a trap but the Warhammer Titan and the last Eldian Nobility, the military leaders of Marley, and the Marlyean fleet and main harbor in one place is one in a lifetime chance for him give Paradise more time.

3 or 4 years just isn't enough for diplomacy, especially with Marley having a million soldiers and Zeke pushing them to invade Paradis, not evening mentioning Zeke's limited lifespan.

Most of the time, 50% of his so called "failures" are caused by events out of his control. It's not his fault the Female Titan kicked his ass or caused him to perform collateral damage in the Strohess district, Reiner flipping out and transforming right infront of him, the Military Secret Police after his ass or the Colossus Titan turning him into a Titan football, Zeke convincing the Marlyean Military to attack Paradise or Willy Tybur pointing him and his people as the "Ultimate Evil" infront of an international audience.

You're not wrong. These are very good points.

I'm gonna keep shitting on Eren anyway, because we all know success doesn't matter.

I do admit, I forgot about all that stuff you mentioned.

I'm just glad that I decided to give a good perspective balance regarding Eren.

In other news. I'm honestly shocked how the Anime managed to subtly change the dynamic of the Shiganshina Trio.

Basically put, they Flanderized Mikasa into a waifu who looks at "Ereh" and only has her mind on "Ereh!!". There's also the fact that she's the female character in the anime who has lipstick lips.

Not to mention either erasing or changing Armin's best bud reactions with Eren.

Maybe that's why I didn't like the first season that much. I read the manga afterwards and I much prefer it to the anime.

Man, that's a lot of minor differences, and some of those definitely helped in shaping the opinion of various characters for the worse. Thanks man, interesting read.

Is Before the Fall worth reading (read:does it affect the main series in any way)? I read the first volume and never picked it up again.

The only thing I can remember about Before the Fall is it's Titan designs being really creepy and that the main character was birthed in Titan vomit. That's pretty much it.

Still those Titans were certainly something.

It's got some interesting details on the universe and what I read of the plot (first 10 or so volumes) was decent enough. I'd say it's worth a read, if only because we get to see the first ever titan kill.

So I've been interested in read the SNK manga lately. I heard the most recent arc has been amazing. This question has probably been asked a million times but as someone left of at the second season of the anime where should I begin and is it better to read from the beginning of the manga for any differences between it and the anime?

Start with chapter 51.

Also maybe avoid this thread in a few days, leaks for 107 are starting to come out and we don't use spoiler tags for very long. As for differences between manga and anime: story is the same, but some character moments were the changed, and some characters are present for events in the anime that they weren't in the manga, but not in any way that would change future events I.e.: Sasha being present throughout season 2 whereas in the manga she just kind of vanishes for a while after her personal chapter and returns for the next arc caught up to speed with everything.

Do we know who the father is? In The slim chance it's Eren (vs some arranged marriage of state or something) it might be what provoked him to go as far as he did.

no clue, only a few pages have been shown (and only two translated, what I posted above) and this is from the last page of the chapter with some blonde guy (who we only see from behind) telling her to go inside because its too hot and she needs to take care of her body or something. People have noted that his speech pattern isn't exactly as polite as one would normally use with a pregnant Queen. Reddit has links.

I wonder if Historia's baby is going to have any signifigance on the plot. Hopefully we won't get Historia's Child: Next Generations.

They made her a baby factory so they can abuse the Beast Titan's control ability?

That or it's just a matter of the royal succession.
