Isayama is definitely taking a huge risk, though that will depend on how long the "post-titan" part of the story will be. Well there will still be titans, just not mindless ones.

Let's face it, there wouldn't have been much point in continuing the "human fighting giant zombies" story for another 10 volumes.

…Speaking of which, was it explained how the Beast Titan could control other titans without the Coordinator power?

Wasn't the series supposed to last 100 chapters?

[up][up]I don't think he could. The big eye titan wasn't obeying him and the other seem afraid of him. Given those titan knew to go through doors in the tower rather than just trying to climb, they might have a bit more intelligence the normal titans and could be made to obey orders.

[up][up]I heard something similar to that, so I'm guessing the story is winding down.

Yeah, back in 2013 Isayama said he was aiming for 20 volumes (about 82 chapters). A year later his editor said three to four more years, making 25 volumes (about 102 chapters) a more accurate estimate.

So yeah, we've more or less begun the final stretch.

As in the lovecraft sense of you can't win.

I don't think that's enough to be lovecraftian. Lovecraftian is about truly hammering in how insignificant you are in the big picture, and that the outside forces are not only far too powerful for humanity to overcome, they don't even care that humanity's around. Titans can be felled by human hands, and as powerful as they are, you can still punch them out without breaking your arms.

Lovecraftian isn't just about "you can't win." After all, you can't beat Missile Command, but that doesn't make it Lovecraftian, only bleak.

They definitely were lovecraftian in the sense that they're these unknowable, deformed humans of gigantic power could wipe out most humans. Only the superhuman and trained soldiers can take out a Titan (and that depends on the Titan too)

It really depends on what your definition of lovecraftian is.

@Lovecraftian feeling: We've got a trope for that.

Anyway, the problem with fighting Marley is that it's impossible to fight Marley. Unless the country collapsed on itself, no amount of soldiers and Titan Shifters can fight off an organized early 20th Century military with modern artillery and triplanes (and one that's increasingly more advanced, too); especially if they would be the ones invading Marley and not the other way around.

Assuming Marley is no more or has been pushed back into being a non-issue, all that remains are the mainland Eldians, likely the place where BRA come from. They have their own interest in recovering The Coordinate and King's Titan thingamajigger, too.

Now I'm imagining the Survey Corps launching a stealth mission into Marley to try and uncover that. Though the immediate issue there is developing the concepts for ocean travel and navigation.

Well, there already exist vessels for river transportation (that's how Eren & C.O escape Shiganshima at the very beginning of the story), so it's not like they're completely in the dark on this.

...presuming that the manga will finish within 110 chapters at best, an interesting thought would be a Downer Ending where Marley just strolls in and starts slaughtering their way through Paradiso, presumably after a couple chapters of unnerving peace (or maybe even preparations to venture into the sea). Of course, that's mostly dumb hypothesis because there would still be quite a few plots unresolved that way.

Depending on how deep this particular stretch of ocean is, they could just have Armin put those CT powers to work and walk.

I wonder if they could use Colossal Titan-Armin as an aircraft carrier to transport everyone across the ocean?

Well I already proposed having him walk everybody across, but the way you phrased it makes me picture everybody in hot air balloons and Armin throwing them across.

In retrospect, it would have been less ambiguous if I said boat rather than aircraft carrier. I've been looking into Kantai Collection too much.

What I was thinking was the Colossal Titan-Armin lying on his back on the ocean as the humans ride on him.

next chapter will be a timeskip to the war's end.

Chapter after that'll be the epilogue. Chapter after that'll be a timeskip to after the epilogue.

Eren will be the past human and a bajillion feet tall because he absorbed all the titan powers.

So... what I'm gathering from this is that Marley is at war with another country (not the Walled Civilization), and their loss of the Colossal and Female Titans has hurt them badly enough that they've indefinitely postponed further invasions into Paradise.

Okay, then. I'm guessing the Walls have been spending the years gathering their forces for an attack on Marley... or figuring out how to boat so they can get off the island.

[up]To me it looks like they are planning another attack on the Walls. They are currently just planing on replacing the hosts of the beast titan and armored titan first.
