Sad: Dont get to see coworkers that I am friends with but dont know out of work any more

Relieved: Denios Farmers Market was a HORRIBLE place to work. They put a man with a history of health problems out in the heat once without water or permission to go get it until someone agrees to relieve him, then wrote him up when he passed out.

Proud: I made it almost four years at a job that often only keeps people in the disposable easily-filled positions like I work for a matter of months.

Annoyed: Being called up by that psychopath bitch in HR with all her superficiality so she could tell me to return company shirts and sign paperwork.

Concerned: Well, now I have to go get another job. Ideally a real one with a good outlook and progressive structure. Maybe a healthy corporate ethic (as opposed to: break the law whenever you can, no one will listen to college kids and ex druggies anyways)

Bemused: Our company, as a PR stunt, boasts it has never laid a single employee off. However, we have a massive turnover rate. Some of it is people just quitting, but a lot of it is the BS reasons they come up with to terminate employment. Mine was a "code of conduct violation" which involved unspecified other people, and unspecified conduct, taking place at an unspecified time and an unspecified date. Unspecified not because I dont want to tell you all, but because they wont tell me what I supposedly did or failed to do at some point. It is, however, much cooler than the guy who was fired for miscounting a box of frozen patties. Oddly, my violation may not have happened, for some technical purposes, because I never ended up signing off to acknowledge the incident report. Normally something they would fire you for (insubordination) but it wasnt presented to me until they already told me I was fired for the undisclosed event. Im not actually sure how that works.

Anyways, I come to you, the forums, to ask if anyone else has had these experiances. Or other, different, but still noteworthy ones, to share with your confused fellow troper.

Can they get charged with manslaughter if somebody actually died?

You could probably make the case for it.

I'm sorry about you're job loss, Storm. its hard finding a new job out there in these times. You seem rather relieved though so its not all bad, I guess. I don't have any words of wisdom to give except don't get hung up over it, which you don't seem to be doing anyway - good job. Just start looking for another job immediately and something will turn up.

[up][up] Probably, im guessing.

Oddly, they DIDNT write me up when I fell through some plate glass.

Although they DID write me up when I found $50 from a previous cashier that the money person had missed and handed it in with my cash. (they wrote me upf or being $50 over and the other guy for being $50 short)

And yes, I am an idiot for not just pocketing the cash. No amount of warm fuzzies will make up for giving $50 to a company too inept to keep track of it and too cruel to do anything but punish me for the favor I did them.

Sounds like poor management or bad policies.

I'd say that you're better off, but given the current work climate in US...

Never thought I'd say it, but I've found a place worse to work in than the company my Dad works for, who are actively trying to get him to quit/find ways to fire him because he's been with the company since before some assholes came in, took over, and fucked everything up.

They do have medals for almost, and they're called silver!

[up]

Halfway through my time at that company the HR and my immediate superviser were replaced. And the replacments were definitly not improvments.

So why exactly were you fired?

I'v never been slacked but I had been made redundant.

My advice, take a low paying entry level job and never turn up, that way it's never seems like a big deal when you lose a job you actually wanted(and odd are it will happen to you once or twice in your working life, don't take it personal).

... actually I have been fired a couple of times looking back.

That's a horrible idea, especially since that's gotta go on your job applications, especially if you have little to no other job experience.

Well obviously.

Even If you were to do that, why would you put that on your CV? it's a form of self promortion not a sworn affidavit.

Well, if you have almost no experience, you're probably not gonna get hired anyway, so any sort of experience can only help.

CV?

Ah, Americans. With your funny words for a CV and your almost complete lack of employment law.

Wacky hijinks to be sure.

[up][up]We have tons of employment laws. It's just that no one knows them unless they have a disability or unless they're looking for loopholes to use to sue the company if they get fired.

And resumé is a French word, silly.

I've been fired from a job, too...

I also had to quit a job, sadly, after giving the best dang performance of my life. (A weeks worth of work, in one day. ON a holiday weekend.)

It should be noted, that this is probably illegal. In Texas, at least, it's illegal to deny employees free access to fresh water and a bathroom.

Fight smart, not fair.
