I feel like a lot of the original Gangnam video's popularity was just "lol, Asians are insane", which seemed to be deflated by hearing the explanation "this video is crazy because Psy wanted it to be as silly as possible".

We Koreans pride ourselves for insanity. Silliness, on the other hand, not as much.

So the Korean motto is "Sanity is for the weak!"?

I don't know, I think it is more of "Let's wreck some shit!"

So it looks like Gangnam Style has cracked the top ten viewed videos on youtube. Impressive.

So CollegeHumor posted this up about an hour ago. Arguably, it's more in the spirit of the original song that most parodies.

I just watched the original and I have no idea what the eff I just saw.

ALL THROUGHOUT THE LAND, UP UNTIL THAT FATEFUL NEW YEAR'S DAY IN 2101, EVERYBODY DANCED THE "GANGAM STYLE." YEA, THEY DANCED MERRILY AND HAPPILY, CONTORTING THEIR BODIES IN A WAY THAT IT WAS THOUGHT ONLY KOREANS COULD PREVIOUSLY.

I keep hearing this here and there in my university.

I can't even imagine how it would be like in Korea.

To be honest, I don't get why the video is supposedly so weird. It doesn't look much weirder than the stuff my teenage sister watches on Rage. About the only thing that set it apart is the distinctive dance.

It's not weird, it's just a catchy tune, an entertaining video, and an absence of understandable lyrics to subtract from the experience of pure pop-cultural revelry. Plus almost anyone can do the dance reasonably well.

How are the lyrics not understandable?

Because some people don't know Korean?
