Great Moments in Putting Your iPod on Shuffle:

Just awesome like that
Yes, the blatant snowclone title was very unnecessary.

You ever have a moment when you're listening to your music on shuffle and the songs that play one after another seem to work so well together? Share those pointless moments here!

Ten minutes ago, I was listening to a Beach Boys song*, and then the following song was Weird Al's Beach Boys pastiche*! Also, something that seems to happen hilariously often for me is that the next song ends up being what would have been the next track on the previous song's album.

I had shuffle play the song that was next on the list in alphabetical order once. But I don't think that counts.

Hey, that's fine, since I always find that hilarious for some reason.

I love when a track that has a Fading into the Next Song-ish ending miraculously manages to actually segue well into the next track on shuffle. Today I was amused when Queen's "Prophet Song" matched up perfectly with RIAA's "Birds" - basically 8 minutes of Epic Rocking fading into two minutes of "Close To You" by The Carpenters mashed up with soundbites about birds falling out of the sky.

Just the other day, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" was immediately followed by "A Little Help From My Friends."

Yes, it was on shuffle.

This isn't... exactly what the OP says. But if I put my laptop music player on shuffle, there's a chance it will come up with that song from Into the Woods that starts with a blood curdling scream.

I usually jump out of my skin, simultaneously trying to shove the laptop away from me and hit 'mute' or 'stop' or 'next'. sad

When the song titles put together make sense. That's always cool.

"All Signs Point to Lauderdale" by A Day to Remember, followed by "Map the Streets" by Senses Fail.

One time my iPod's shuffle played the same song three times in a row. It was weird.

Heh. One time, I played the same some three times, in the three different versions I have of it.

That was weird.

@Loni: Kinda similar to that, there was a time during which (for three months straight at least) the song "Mandolin Rain" by Bruce Hornsby would always end up being one of the first five or ten songs whenever I shuffled my music. It got to be kind of annoying after a while, which is a shame since it's a great song.

[up]I love having several different versions of a song. It's like a surprise party that was totally unnecessary but is nice anyway.

[up][up][up] I don't think that's possible with my iTunes, since it plays each song on the "playlist" once before looping back around.

[up][up] However, that's perfectly possible.

I've had Barenaked Ladies "One Week" segue directly into Weird Al 's parody of it, "Jerry Springer".

I've also had Weird Al 's "Bohemian Polka" segue into the original Queen version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" followed directly by the Muppet version.

[up][up] Sorry, I worded that badly. I have 3 versions of Iron Maiden's Fear Of The Dark on my iPod: the studio album's and 2 different live recordings (Death On The Road and Rock In Rio), and they were all played one after the other.

Don't be the penis.
I was once listening to iTunes very late at night, and suddenly I got a string of sleep-related songs. "I Need a Nap"*, "I Need Some Sleep"*, and "I Need to Go To Sleep"*.

I thought this was freaky, but then I realized it wasn't shuffling, it was playing the tracks in alphabetical order.

One time, I put it on shuffle and got "Mean" followed by "Mother Knows Best (Reprise)." I thought that was pretty funny.

And another time, I got "We Will Rock You" followed by "Don't Stop Believing." Epic rocking ensued.

Sort of similar to [up]x8, a while back, I ended up fixing the track info on some of my songs and accidentally duplicating a bunch of songs on my iPod, leading to the same track playing twice in a row...and then the live version of the same song (which wasn't duplicated).

I've also got a pretty wide range of "moods" of music, so occasionally are some pretty epic moments of Mood Whiplash. Probably my favorite was this* being followed up by the Golden Saucer theme from Final Fantasy VII. I literally went "Really?" out loud when it came on.

There's also those moments where the song that was picked completely randomly in your media player of choice fits what you're doing...

One time, I was making paper cranes, and after picking out some blue paper, "I'm Blue" by Eiffel 65 started playing on Windows Media Player. I did not plan this. It was weird.

Don't be afraid... I only want your soul.
[up] Oh I've had that happen. One time I was trying to RP something with a friend and the song Hanky Panky by Madonna came on my playlist.

Edit: And I had a moment occur that probably wasn't great but I'm going to put it anyways. The voice recording I did once out of boredom played. Normally I save those files to a different place than my music but I'm guessing when Itunes rebooted it put that in my library too.

Heh, whenever my iPod plays songs from the same album consecutively I usually check if I accidentally had it set to shuffle by album. But when "Wake Me Up When September Ends" was followed by "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" a minute ago, it was not set to that! Hahahaha, this is a great story I should tell at parties, no?

@ Cat. That happens to me. ALL THE TIME.

@ Mummy Odd. Fuck yes. tongue
Can I necro this thread? I finally got a funny example.

I was doing a thing on tumblr where a person sends you a message. You put your playlist on shuffle and fill out the following template as an example of what the soundtrack for a movie of that person's life would be like.

Opening Credits: Waking Up: First Day At School: Falling In Love: Fight Song: Breaking Up: Life’s OK: Getting Back Together: Wedding: Birth of Child: Final Battle: Death Scene: Funeral Song: End Credits:

Itunes starts off by giving me My Death by Marc Almond for the first one. From there, almost ALL of the songs end up being seriously depressing ones, before ending with I Just Wish They'd Die by Kaito.

It's almost as if Itunes sensed that I don't like the person I was doing this for much. Hm.

I've had three versions of Make Us Your Brides (the original version and two remixes by the same band) appear within the same half-hour of shuffle.

Oh, and also the time were I had the original version of Lunatic Eyes - Invisible Full Moon follow straight after a complicated remix of it. It was like the iPod was testing me. "Can you recognize this theme? If not, here's the right answer."

So I was talking to a friend who linked me a great picture of some guys and I was thinking "ooh mama" in the same tone as Steve Martin in Dentist from Little Shop of Horrors.

What song comes onto my shuffle next?
