Thirty Hs has a new eighth chapter. And it's just as messed up as before. Maybe MORE SO.

I shall keep the third president's advice in mind when dealing with whales.

It only really seemed to have a token reference to Harry Potter, though. I mean, even less than the previous chapters.

Yep. A little surprising that Harry isn't even mentioned. But the fic stopped being a HP fanfic after Chapter 3, really.

So, the other day I was reading this hilariously terrible Harry/Hermione fic where the author got the characters completely wrong. For example, the fic chose to villify Ginny in a number of ways, such as making her wizard racist and calling Hermione a mudblood.

Now, I was thinking about how this doesn't make any sense from a canon or a sociological perspective. "Given Ginny's background where she's surrounded by decidedly non-racist people and doesn't exactly have a lot of friends or whatnot to influence that, it doesn't make sense for her to be like this, unless being possessed by Tom Riddle's diary had some lingering effects or something..."

So that gave me an idea for a short story - what if there were some lingering effects on Ginny due to the diary that she had to wrestle with? Could take place over the summer between books two and three.

Fanfiction I hate.

Personally I like HP stories which feel like canon the best...I'm all over the work of Northumbrian, she has written a ton post-war stories which feel like they are canon...no matter what the filmmakers said, to me Lavender always got hurt, finally decide to become a werewolf and expert in Harry's team. http://www.siye.co.uk/viewuser.php?uid=13604

I've always wanted to write the story of Jack Le Strange. He grew up as the ward of the warden at Azkaban, when Bellatrix was pregnant. The circumstances of his conception was certainly a bit suspicious. The odd boy is virtually a squib until he's ten years old, playing alone on the dank shores of Azkaban and guarding the warm thought that some day he'll leave the island for anywhere else. Finally, he gets his letter and goes to Hogswarts nine years after Deathly Hollows. He is put in Slytherin house, and starts to seek out his lineage. Worse, something seems to be stalking him. The new Defense Against Dark Arts instructor seems quite keen on him... as if he knows something that Jack doesn't. When the Warden is brutally murdered, Jack returns to Azkaban to confront his father and get answers. He discovers that his father isn't his sire. No, Rodolphus Lestrange wasn't even interested in women and his 'wife' certainly wasn't interested in him. Jack begins to try and find anyone who knew his mother as he seeks the truth and discovers that his father is none other than Lord Voldemort himself.

Jack's conception wasn't to Voldemort's plan, but Bellatrix, as he starts to learn about his lineage. Bellatrix's obsession with her master belies their twisted relationship, in which Voldemort delighted in psychologically crushing his 'loving' follower as constant lessons that love was, at best, mindless lust. She did, however, obtain his seed and sired her child. She was three months pregnant when she was arrested in the ministry.

Jack starts to question his own lineage and destiny. Is he to become the next dark lord? Worse, there are certain wisards determined to make him their dark figurehead. And Jack ultimately has to decide who he is supposed to be. He learns the Dark Arts teacher is a golem inhabited by non-other than Salazar Slytherin himself, and Salazar is not happy when Jack proves far more defiant than Salazar would like.

Anyway, that's my idea... probably won't ever have the time to write it, and it'd be horrible if I ever did.

I think for OC-Characters is the same true as for AU-Harry's - never made them too special. And if you want to make them the centre of the story it's more interesting if you are picking characters which are already there in one way or another. I once read a very good story about the newly bitten werewolf who was sharing Arthur's room in St. Mungos. The writer made him the author of the Martin Miggs Comic book, the Comic books itself clever commentaries about the wizard world, and the one responsible for the attack on him Umbridge.

After the last chapters of Natural 20, and the Fiona subplot, I was wondering if there is any fic with bigger focus on a similarly themed muggle POV, presented as a "mystery" story of some random person or group discovering the magic world on their own secretly, step by step. Other than that specifically, is there any good muggle-based story?

By the way, is there any fanfic where the Order of the Phoenix or the Ministry of Magic recruits muggle military for help? Crossover is...acceptable, but I prefer one that isn't.

There are several such fics. The one that springs to mind immediately is Queen who Fell to Earth and sequel, though that's a crossover. I've read another in which Harry alone recruits such help; it was decent enough, but I don't have the link or title at the moment.

I liked Allstar Batman And Robin. It took everything questionable and reprehensible about Batman and cranked it up to eleven. Still, we got a sexy Alfred out of the deal!

Question for an HP/Percy Jackson X-Over. How do you guys think the Wizard World would react to the existence of Demi-Gods and Gods being real from a political/culture clash viewpoint?

Just to help with the context of the situation the two worlds are just meeting (so no Draco, Hermione, whoever are not Demi-God Wizards), let's go with the basic "Demi-Gods are sent to Hogwarts to kill Voldemort/Protect Harry Plot", I choose this one because its the quickest way to make a crossover also because Percy Jackson and Co. live in America. Harry Potter and Co. live in the UK. IIRC Book 4 confirmed that America has its own schools for magic (even if the only one mentioned sounds like its Witches only) so Demi-Gods who live in America getting Letters for a Wizard School in Scotland doesn't make much sense to me.

Anyways I can see Voldemort tying to recruit/capture the Demi-Gods if only to find out the secret to the gods' immortality... obviously that won't end well.

I read a pretty good 'reading the books' fic the other day about the original Order of the Phoenix (sans Peter, I think, it wasn't the whole Order, just a group of them, like Molly and Lily and some others, and the kids- little baby harry was sleeping in his crib n stuff) getting a hold of the first book. (I can't post the link because i'm new, but it's by nix54 on fanfiction) it was good, because there was a lot of story with the Order, and reactions... that kind of thing. first book was finished, but it's been a year since Chamber of Secrets was updated, though nix54 says s/he'll continue at some point.

Just read the first chapter, and I can only think it will go very, very badly for the wizarding world. Harry, possessed by Voldemort, raised from a young age to hate muggles and the Ministry of Magic.

I present to you the Ronald Weasley Quest, where Ronald Bilius Weasley is the reincarnation of dracophile Planeswalker Sarkhan Vol.

(Yes, there were parts where I used GM SMASH, but that was to get to the hilarious parts quicker.)

Oh yeah, and Sarkhan Vol!Ronald has picked up a new friend in the Hogwarts Express. His name is Tibalt. The kind of hilarity in Arnold's Commando will be guaranteed to ensue from here on out.

It's a reincarnation quest. A character from one fictional work is transplanted via a glitch in the wheel of transmigration into the infant body of another character from a different fictional work, and proceeds to live out that character's life, only with their own personality instead of that of the character they replaced. The players collectively vote on what to do/learn/eat/befriend/explore next, and the majority decision is written up by the GM along with the results of that choice. They're really fun to play; I'm running one where Lupin III has been reincarnated as Ino from Naruto.
